I just bought a Mustangs V with the matching cab to use at church. Seeing we play different songs being able to change out the presents easy in the amp is a great plus.

I was planning on bringing the head back and forth to prep my settings, but I'd rather not move it if at all possible. So I was thinking of picking up a mustang I for my house. I would the laptop to choose and put together my presents, then I would just have to bring my laptop and sync up with my mustang V at church.

My only concern in the I is limited compared to the V, but as long as I'm using Fuse is this an issue?

Nope. But keep in mind that the Mustang I has an 8" special speaker, where the V412 cab for the Mustang V has 4x 12" Celestion Rocket 50 speakers. It's a completely different sound. You can get a sound you like and save it to your laptop, but you're still going to have to "tweak" it at the church when you load it up and save it to the amp. So I'd go an hour or so before church to do that.

The content of yopur presets will transfer without difficulty, but apart from the differences in speakers and their output mentioned by FXIhealer,, the tone will also vary hugely between listening at home and listening in a space like a church and within a full band mix, making it even more necessary to do some on the spot tone-tweaking in the actual venue.

For example, I typically find that the preset tones I have carefully developed at home all tend to need a treble boost to cut through when I start playing with the full band in a bigger space.

Will using headphones help any?

I understand the V is a stereo unit, but I'm micing my amp with a single mic, so stereo effects are wasted until we're able to upgrade our PA.

Using headphones to develop your presets should even-out the potential tone differences between the two amps, by by-passing the speakers.

However, once you are back to listening through the speakers, you will still have to deal with the impact of the environmental factors that will be very different between playing in your home and playing in a space such as a church, and at gig volumes.

So, you would still need to do some on-the-spot tweaking of your amp settings in the actual venue - this is normal and pretty much inevitable. Even if you are only working with one amp, it will sound different in different places.

Thanks for your help. I spend a few hours at the church out side of practices and services and I can tweak things then. Just don't want to order the amp and regret it later. I love the new amp

Hi wejarvis4,

I see that you purchased a couple of products from the Fender Mustang line. And it looks like you are getting some good advice from depepat and FFXIhealer as well. Please let me know if there is anything I can assist with.

Best Regards,
