I recently demoed a Mustang III in a local store and really liked it, and there were a few patches that really stood out. Given that I'm only looking for a small practice amp to fit in a small space though, the II is a better fit but unfortunately the store didn't have one. My question is, do the two models have the same patches or can you simulate that via software downloads? ( the one with Gomez, I think, in the patch name was especially pleasing)

The Mustang I and II (M1 and M2) only have 24 preset slots. Of those slots, they come in three banks (Red, Green, and Amber) of these amps:

'57 Deluxe
'59 Bassman
'65 Twin Reverb
British '60s (Vox AC30)
British '80s (Marshall JCM800)
American '90s (Mesa Dual Rectifier)
Super-Sonic (Burn)
Metal 2000 (Peavey 5150)

But yes, if you connect the amp to FUSE, you can update, switch out, change, whatever these 24 preset slots to use as you see fit. I've done that with my M2 already. I set it up so that the Red bank is all high-gain stuff, the Green bank is all clean or low-gain stuff, and Amber is anything else that doesn't fit nicely into the other two banks. I also switch amp models in and out, so that at the turn of the preset dial, I can immediately call up any of the 12 amp models. As you can see from the list above, 4 of the amp models are not immediately useable. You have to use FUSE to get to them.

By contrast, my M5 (just like the M3 you tried) has 100 preset slots that are completely user customizeable from the amp itself without needing a computer. But using FUSE is still handy for detailed preset adjustments.

Good info, thanks. Follow up question. Is there a master list of M3 presets and their parms that Fuse could draw from? In other words, if I wanted to duplicate a preset found on the M3 to an M2, could Fuse just download it or would I have to manually configure it guessing or approximating the M3 parm values?

I'm sure every one of those patches is available on the Fuse Community Database. Also, anyone who owns one of those amps could do a backup and send you the files in a ZIP file. You could then use those saved patches individually to load them into your amp with FUSE.

If you search this forum, you should find that someone has already posted a link to the download of a single zipped file that contains ALL of the 100 Mustang III presets, any one of which can be installed to a Mustang II via Fuse.

If you can find that file/link, it would save an awful lot of time trawling through the Fuse online library for the individual presets and downloading them one at a time.
