Does the extra speaker in the Mustang IV make a big difference to the sound/tone of the amp?

I own a Mustang II, but have tried out both the III and the IV in my local stores. I think the IV's extra speaker definitely moves more air, and personally I like the sound of the IV better.

If I was going to move up, I think I'd get the IV.

Also keep in mind that the M4 is a stereo guitar amp, where the M3 is a mono amp.

That was what I was asking but never made myself clear. So I really need to get down to my local music store and try them out.

Hi Guys,

The Fender Mustang III & IV are both "Stereo" amps. The Mustang IV of course has 2 speakers , so you can hear the stereo effects when playing back through the cabinet. But the electronics in both amps are stereo. Audio is output from both the headphone and USB outputs in stereo on both amps. The only other hardware difference that affects the stereo signal is the mono effects send/return on the Mustang III. I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can assist further.

Thanks for clarifying that for us Alan. I ended up getting a IV though for a bargain basement £200, these sell for £360 in GuitarGuitar. Mint with all cables, wires and the 4 switch foot-pedal. It looks like it has just been taken out of the box and looks amazing. I have been playing around with it all night trying to find a fault and a possible reason for the low price tag! To my relief I can't find any problems with it so it looks like I won a watch.

I love the Stang IV

I have both, started with the III and then upgraded to the IV. The IV has a larger, warmer sound, where the II's sound is tighter, with a more focused volume. Interestingly, the III sounds louder than the IV at the same volume level, the but the IV's sound is bigger. I prefer the IV--it really fills the room.

Hi, I have a Mustang IV and love it. Good sound, more than enough power & all the effects are inside. The other guitar player in the band wants one but in a smaller version. I was wondering if the electronics are the same in both amps? ( same effect, same Amp Modeling ect.....)?

All 5 of the Mustang amplifiers have identical DSPs inside. The differences are in the final tone shaping for each individual speaker (in order to enact cab sims), the power of the output amplifier, and the size of the cabinet.
Mustang 1 - 8" speaker, small cabinet, 20-watts.
Mustang 2 - 12" speaker, slightly bigger cabinet, 40-watts.
Mustang 3 - 12" speaker, bigger open-back cabinet, 100-watts.
Mustang 4 - 2x12" speakers, huge open-back cabinet, 150-watts.
Mustang 5 - no speakers, head-box, 150-watts.
Mustang V412 - 4x12" speaker cabinet, stereo/mono operation, 200-watt capacity
