That's because there isn't one !

Sustain is a kind of holy grail for electric guitar players, and the amount of sustain you can wring from any guitar is a function of many things, starting with the timbers the guitar is built from, the strings, the pick ups, the player's own technique etc, and that's before you even get to looking at amp and effect settings !

Boss (and others) make effects pedals that seek to use compression to make notes sustain for longer and I guess you could try to mimic what those pedals do using the effects built into the Mustang amps. (There are also devices such as the Ebow that provide infinite sustain by 'bowing' or vibrating the strings continuously).

Other readers may be able to offer more specific advice based on the actual effects available on the Mustangs.

This is Myvalk, i couldnt get back in so i had to create a new account.
i didnt realize that. ive played acoustic my whole life, and have been away from that for almost 25 or 30 years...yeah, im old hahah .
but i was really starting to get into wanting to play electric.
My electric keyboards had a sustain pedal, so i just thought it was electronics, but i guess not.

thanx..

i am playing around with the fuse programs and hope to jam along with some imaginary buddys soon.

Not sure how the sustain pedal on an electronic keyboard actually works, but I haven't come across a simple 'one-button' equivalent for electric guitar. A lot of it certainly starts with the guitar itself.

Sustain CAN be enhanced with effects, but usually they will also color the sound and significantly increase the volume as well - for example overdrive effects. As I said, clean, undistorted sustain from an electric guitar is a bit of a holy grail for guitar players.

Maybe some internet searching would offer guidance on improving sustain using typical guitar effects such as those found on the Mustangs.

Well there is sustain and there is sustain. For electrics the cleaner less compressed the less sustain. Not that there isn't any even at clean settings just like with an acoustic. And learning to squeeze sustain out of a clean amp setting makes you a better player. The more compression and the more gain the more sustain up to infinite. You can add the Compressor, which you will see has a sustain setting. Or you can use the gain controls on the amp settings or the Overdrive pedal. Or both to sound like a violin.

But it all starts in your hands.

An on/off reverb pedal would act like the sustain pedal on a piano. That could be done with the M3-5 and Floor by using the EXP-1 pedal control the amount and limit the travel settings. Might have to try that for some interesting effects!

thanx all for your replies, but Stinger22 said it best it all starts with your hands

i should concentrate on getting these arthritic hands moving again like they did when they were 25 years old. then the effects will come after.
