i got a Mustang I a few nights ago because i needed a small amplifier to travel with. imagine my surprise at how nice this tiny amplifier sounds. well i was able to get an MS4 off of our local Craigslist today for 25 dollars but there was no cable for it. does this take a regular 2 conductor instrument cable or do i have to use a 3 conductor stereo plug? also, is there a manual for the MS4 available someplace?
I like this little Mustang I enough that when i get home from vacation i might get myself one of the larger ones for a practice/jam amplifier instead of carting the fender super reverb or the bandmaster around.

Are you talking about the Fender MS4 4-button footswitch?

If so, you can't use that with a Mustang I or a Mustang II amplifier. However, if you do decide to get...say....the Mustang III, the M3 comes with the MS2 2-button footswitch and you can use that 4-button switch with it as well for a total of six switches.

And yes, it does use just a regular instrument cable.

Hi bucky katt,

Yes, as FFXIhealer stated, you won't be able to use the Fender MS-4 with your Fender Mustang I. But you certainly use it with a III. The foot pedal that is intended for use with the Fender Mustang I is a one button pedal that allows you to alternate between two selected Presets. That part number is: (P/N 099-4049-000). Thanks.

speaking of MS4, I need a longer lead from the footswitch to the amp,it seems that the cable isn't shielded. Can I get a confirmation on whether I can use a normal guitar lead or not, and whether it's two core?Thanking the experts in anticipation.

Hi GT george,

The cable that is used with the 2 and 4 button footswitches is an unshielded cable. You should be fine running a longer length of it. About how long are you planning to run the cable? You could also try a shielded guitar cable. It should not hurt anything. Please let me know if I can assist further.

Hi Allan, sorry for the delay in replying.I tried an 8 metre length unshielded cable and had no problems. The reason why I want a longer cable is that at rehearsals and some live gigs I try to get some distance from the amp as i play it loud. Our rehearsal room is largish and our drummer is loud....and boys just wanna have fun:)
cheers

Hi GT george,

Thanks for following up. And I do understand about different players/different volumes... :) Please let me know how it goes.

Take care.

I picked a Mustang I at my local GC and they sold me a MS4 to go along with it. What a rip. It's useless with that amp. Thought about picking up a G-DEC 3-Thirty standard but i've read that the MS4 isn't fully functional with that amp either. Has anybody tried this?
I'd pick up a Mustang III but that just to much power for my application.

I'd go back to GC and return the stupid pedal and "educate" them on what goes with what, since they clearly have no clue about Fender amp accessories.
