How do I set up Mustang for this sound( in the youtube link below of Mustang demo ), and how much does it have to do with the strat he switched to? It is the tone at the very begining of video before he starts talking, he also plays it longer at the very end of vid( 13:50 minutes to end ).

Thank You,
BP

OK, what gives? I have been blogging and emailing all over and no one can tell me how he got this sound from the Mustang. Lets be honest, is this the old "bait and switch" or what. Damon plays all these general riffs from the Mustang on an average guitar and then whips out a $3000.00 custom strat, doesn't tell us what setting he is using and begins playing this incredible sound??? Is it even coming from the Mustang, or is he plugged into a $5000.00 system off camera???
Hello is anybody out there?

Liquid Solo maybe?

In every Mustang demo I've seen with Damon he just plays the presets. The reason you can't get the same exact tone could have a lot to do with the guitar, pickups, and sound quality of his recording, but it also has to do with the fact that he is an amazing guitar player. He could probably play a cigar box wrapped with rubber bands and make it sound good.

The Mustangs are very responsive to the gear and player that are plugged into them, just like real tube amps. This is a caveat of the modeling amp. Player A wants to sound like player B. So he downloads player B's settings and is disappointed because it doesnt sound exactly the same.

Case in point: Download some presets from the FUSE community, notice the comments from the uploader - "OMG, dead on Slash, Sweet Child tone!!!!" or whatever... but then read the ratings and user comments - 3.5 stars, "not bad, had to tweak a little...", etc.

Case in point: A friend of mine (who is a much better player than me) came over to check out my Mustang. I ran through some stock presets and started playing my usual classic rock and blues riffs, it didn't sound amazing. So I loaded up some of my own presets, and as I played some stuff I was cmofortable with, the amp came alive. I handed the guitar over to my friend, and he started playing my presets, which he liked, but dindn't love. So he went back to some of the same stock presets that I didn't care for. He started ripping it up with some stuff that he's comortable playing and I was blown away by how amazing he made the amp sound.

So I guess the point is I think this may be why you can't get the same tone. Even if you get the same settings, you may get close to the same sound, but you will always sound like you.

I would be happy if I could just find out his settings for that tone.

Hi Guys,

The videos we produce for specific products do feature those specific products and are recordings with the actual products that are being featured. Obviously, playing ability and the quality of the recording will be factors that will affect quality of the end product.

Best Regards,

I agree that Damon is a great player and gets great tones, and I don't think there is any deliberate intention to 'pimp' the tones he get, which I am sure are mostly 'out of the box' presets.

However, it's also apparent that in many of those and other similar demo videos, the amp is miced up, and who knows what it's going through after that, on top of which the Youtube conversion process often adds compression etc, so by the time you watch the video at home, you could be a long way away from the tone originally coming out of the amp.
Throw in all the other variables mentioned by Scorpaeon, and your chances of getting that EXACT same tone out of your own set up become pretty slim.

Close, maybe yes, exactly the same - probably not.

You find it strange that after 3 posts you haven't been replied to? Okay.

It's obvious that it's the guys playing and the guitar he's using.

You think that every single moderator knows what's going on in every single video? I'm new here but I don't expect them to know everything.

You sound desperate and paranoid, maybe that has something to do with it.

As I stated earlier, I have made numerous posts and comunications in other venues, I have emailed Fender, emailed Damon, and no one has yet to answer the simple question of what setting he is using. As you can read..., if you can read, the moderator here still did not answer my question, just repeated what some one had already posted. And yes I do expect a rep from a company that manufactures, promotes, sells, and makes advertizing videos for it products to know what's going on in them.

Maybe you are just used to the subpar service in your kind of neighborhood!

Hi Guys,

The video that is being discussed here is 100% Fender Mustang with the guitar you see. Period. It was close mic'd with a Zoom stereo recorder as the recording device. I hope this information and clarification is helpful. Thanks.

Best Regards,

I appreciate the reply( really I do ), but all this is beside the point. My initial question was" what setting is Damon using for that paticular tone " at the start and end of the video?

Hi Stratlingun,

I have heard back from Fender UK. Here is the information I was able to get. Keep in mind it has been awhile since the video was made! Damon said that he tends to use the Bassman setting for blues\crunch stuff. Lead tones tend to be British 70's model. Hi Gain is the Supersonic!) I hope that information helps guys.
