Hi there, I am going to get the Mustang Floor 'head' and I was wondering what kind of speaker/cab I should get? I'm reluctant to plug it into my current amp because it has some issues and is really quite old. So what do you think? The budget I guess is around £50-100 and I'm only really going to use it for home practice so 25w would be more than enough.

Thanks,

Rich.

(I have tried to Google this and found nothing so sorry if I've missed the obvious answer).

If its just for home practice any small watt amp will work fine..

I use a VOX AC4TV and it sounds fantastic..

I'd love to plug my Floor in to a Blues Junior (but I dont have one yet  )

I had a Mustang V Head and I use to play mine through a keyboard amp and it sounded really good. I sold the Mustang V and bought one of the Fender Floors. I had a Fender Frontman 212r laying around so I am going to use it for now, but from my experience a PA style amp sounds a lot better with the amp modeling. Even a couple of used powered PA speakers. I have hooked my Floor up to my Tapco Studio Monitors and it sounds pretty awesome at low levels.

If you are going to use it mostly for just the effects and not the amp modeling I would shoot for a couple of small amps and run it in stereo or some sort of stereo setup, the mustang line sounds pretty awesome in stereo.

One thing I really like about the Floor model, in fact all of the Mustangs, is you can overdrive them with a pedal in front of the unit and it does not mush out, it reacts more like a regular amp. I run a Hardwire CM2 in front of my Floor and it really thickens the tone. I have a couple of old Maxon Preamp DI's and it does the same, also the Big Muff with Tone/Wicker works good for a wall of amps sound.

I am going to test running the Floor into my tube amps today. I have a Blues Deluxe Reissue, 1993 Blues Deville 410 and an Egnater Tweaker 15 with a 2 x12 cab and a 1 x12 cab. I am using my Mustang Floor mostly for recording, going straight into a mixer and monitoring it with headphones. This product really excels in that department.

Hi Guys,

There are several options when outputting signal from your Fender Mustang Floor unit. You can go with a guitar amp. But keep in mind that the output of the Mustang Floor is a line output and is intended to go to a line input such as the Aux input of the Fender Mustang I-V series amps. You can also go with a power amp/speaker style input device such as a powered P.A. speaker(s) or even a powered guitar cabinet. A main factor to consider here is whether or not you want to have 2 layers of modeling or preamplification. If you go with a powered speaker solution, you will get a clean input to reproduce the Mustang Floor's own modeling. If you go with a guitar amp, you will most likely want to choose either the Mustang Floor or the guitar amp as the guitar tone source. Additionally, you also have a couple of options regarding the Mustang Floor's available model settings. You can use the Studio Preamp, which is a very neutral model that allows you to use EQ and Cab sim. Or you can press the Amp button on the Floor, and turn the amp modeling off all together. I hope this helps.

So plug in to the effects loop return, or the power amp in of guitar amp and you're good to go? What about the impossible to turn off cab sims?

Hi teejoo,

You do not need to connect the return of the Effects loop. We recommend that you use the Effects send with a line level input device such as a mixer, or powered speaker cabinet.

Allan,
I'm wondering what advantage there is in plugging a Mustang Floor unit in to a Mustang III/IV as you mentioned. Isn't that just duplicating what you already have tone wise, or would a Floor give you more control and options as to tone switching?

In looking at the manual, you're exactly right, CharlesTY. I can't see an advantage for the user. Fender however would sell yet another amp. I would recommend either a Tech21 Power Engine, a Roland JC 120, a keyboard amp or better yet, a pair of powered PA speakers.

I knew I should have kept my JC 120! (Sold it a long time ago......)

Hi Guys,

Allow me to update and clarify here. I am not advising, selling or suggesting the idea of combining the Fender Mustang Floor and a Fender Mustang III-V series amp. There is some discussion in this thread about connecting the Mustang Floor to a guitar amp. I was simply pointing out that the ideal way to do this would be with a line level input such as the the Aux in on a Fender Mustang series amp.

Indeed, it does not make sense to take the output(s) from the Mustang Floor and connect to the guitar input on a Mustang III-V specifically unless you wanted to use the Mustang Floor as an effects unit by bypassing the Floor's modeling or using the Studio Preamp. With that said, there may be some folks out there who want to "stack" the Mustang Floor and a specific guitar amp, or a Mustang III-V amp with a third party floor pedal that may offer effects and modeling.

If this is to be done, you would (in most cases) want to choose one or the device as the model or "tone" source and use the remaining unit as an effects device. There has been some discussion of this as well. A word of caution here - if the user is going to connect the Mustang Floor output(s) to a guitar input, we advise turning the Floor's output level down completely (knob on rear panel) before connecting the units this way. Then bring the output level up slowly on the Mustang Floor until you have an appropriate input level on your amp. Of course the levels are much better balanced when using a line input on whatever input source you choose. In this scenario, it could make sense to use the Mustang III-V amps or another amp that has a line input available that would act as a powered speaker(s). I hope this information helps.

Hey, mine sounds great at home using the 1/8 inch jack output into my Yamaha home stereo 50 watt system using Pioneer satelite speakers and subwoofer. I also run directly into my Princeton Chorus amp. But i prefer the PA.

It sounds super great into the PA system at church live! LOVE it live! man. And the patches on FUSE are perfect for what styles I play. I don't have to tweak a thing.

I do recommend that a person understands the output selection mentioned in above posts. Make sure you select which type of system you are running into on the control pad. It makes a difference.

This is a quick video I made early in the morning so pardon the speech impediments and bad guitar playing. I am using a Panasonic SD-40 Camcorder so the sound quality is not the best, but it works ok, sorta.

I am just testing some of the presets I have programmed using the Fender Twin Amp and the Deluxe amp modeling

Equipment List: Blacktop Stratocaster, maple neck with an EMG David Gilmour Pickup set. Mustang Fender Floor Effects Pedal Mackie 1620i Mixer Tapco Studio Monitors Propellerhead Reason for the backing tracks Dean Markley Vintage 70's Regular Gauge Strings

I used the XLR outs on the Fender Floor into two channels of the Mackie Mixer set to one of the PA modes of the Fender Floor pedal.

How could I hook my Mustang Floor to a Hot Rod Deluxe bypassing the amp and going directly into the 12" Celestion or will that even work out ?....Previously it was mentioned about doing something like this ?

The Mustang Floor does not have a power amplifier to drive a speaker directly. It won't work that way. Doesn't the Hot Rod Deluxe have an effects loop? If it does, plug it into the effects return so that the Floor can use HRD's power amp to drive the speaker.
