Hello,

My first post here and English is not my first language, so be gentle please :)

I bought Mustang II while ago, and I'm using it for practice with my band. We play various styles of music, including everything from Hendrix and SRV to RHCP.

So far it works pretty well for me, especially I like its clean tones. Btw, I'm playing Strat copy (Suzuki Super Sound). I also use Cry Baby and EHX Germanium Overdrive.

With my basic amp sound (clean sound, based on De Luxe model) and my OD pedal I can get nice driven sounds, but what I can't achieve are more brutal distortions.

So my questions is - would you recommend buying distortion pedal? I was thinking about Behringer Vintage Distortion as a cheap option, and I wonder if anyone have experience using it with mustang.

Hello Djordew,

I would REALLY recommend saving the money for a Distortion Pedal, but trying first some other presets respectivly Amp-Modells of your Mustang! The Mustangs can do so nice distorted sounds of every color in emulating the preamp ore mainamp distortion of the tube originals.
If thats not what you are looking for, you could build your own presets in Fuse with the onboard Overdrive, Fuzz or Kompressor. Its all there.

The only pedals you need you allready have: a standard-footswitch for changing the presets and the Cry baby ;)

A modelling amplifier may react very strange on distortion-pedals built for usual solid-state amps!

Yes.

Try either "American 90s" or "Metal 2000." If you can use FUSE, then you can get rid of all the stupid effects, like phaser and flanger and reverb and everything. Use only the amp and turn your MIDs up. Then save those presets.

Personally, I like American 90s with the 4x12M cabinet with the mids turned way up.
For Metal 2000, I use the 4x12G cabinet.

With those two amp models, you do not need an overdrive pedal.

Also remember that the speaker will sound better the more you use the amp, so keep playing and play it loud.

Cheers guys and thanks for the advices!

I just brought my mustang back home and I'm going to connect it to Fuse and see what I can get.

Got a Green Rhino, OCD and a ZenDrive on the pedal board I use with my DRRI. Used them at first with the MIII, but after I got the four button switched and set up some presets don't use it anymore with the MIII. The OD stompbox is pretty darn good and being able to dial in amp gains gives me everything I need and a LOT less hassle! Pushing the front end of a tube with pedals is great, not great into a modeling or SS amp you have to watch your levels.

Do not overlook the Super Sonic. You can get a nice tone from that one. but it takes some experimentation with the dual gain settings. Have fun!

Both gain + volume all the way up, that is not too hard to figure out
