I'm getting a Mustang 1 this week and I'm curious on which method would be best for recording. I have a MBox 2 Mini with Pro Tools LE 8 and I could use that to mic the Mustang or use the line out. I also know the Mustang comes with Ableton Live Lite 8 which in that case I could use the USB recording.

Questions:

Could I use the USB feature on the Mustang with Pro Tools LE 8 and the MBox 2 Mini?

What is the difference between the line out and USB on the Mustang?

Also what is your favorite method for recording the Mustang thus far?

Thanks.

I'm not sure about Pro Tools only because I don't have PT as a DAW. I have Reaper, Ableton LIVE LE (that came with my Mustang) and Cakewalk SONAR LE, with a Cakewalk (Edirol) UA-4FX external USB capture device http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=758. This works well for DAW recording.

The line-out on the Mustang is a 'impedance loaded' output, meaning it mimics a mic'd speaker. I also have a BOSS BR-800 http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=1068&ParentId=110 & a BR-1600, I've recorded my Mustang D/I using the line-out and it sounds good IMO.

The USB feature is for DAW recording, if you don't want to mic the amp

I really don't have one, it depends on the recording conditions.

Hi Guys,

The Fender Mustang I features a headphone output (ideal for recording and private listening). The other option as discussed here is the USB digital output. This should be suitable for any ASIO-compatible DAW on Windows and any Core Audio capable device on Mac OS X. Keep in mind that you will need to have the Fender Universal ASIO Driver installed to use this feature on Windows. You can find the ASIO driver here: http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... sio-driver. Mac OS X/Core Audio does not require any driver for use with the Fender Mustang series amps. Please let us know if we can assist further.

Best Regards,

I tried the USB/AISO output last night into Audacity, it was great. I didn't make a demo yet, but will....

A quickie demo of recording via USB. I used FUSE to download the backing track and recorded this in Audacity. Used 3 different lead tones. Two of them I dialed in, the middle solo is a factory preset.

Loads of fun, check it out:
