The line-out signal from the Mustang III headphone jack sounds pretty good and for playing live it is a very good substitute for miking the amp. Our mixing guy is really happy about the results, but for me it´s not ideal: when plugging in a stereo jack, the internal speaker is muted, leaving me alone with only the line-out signal

My idea is to mod the headphone output, because I never use a headphone and I don´t want the internal speaker to be muted, when I plug in a jack to get a line-out signal for our FOH. I know, I will ruin my gurantee, but I think it´s worth it.

Has anyone a circuit drawing of this part of the amp, or a pic of the PCB or any idea how to do this ? Simply cutting a trace and that´s it ? Or more complicated ? Any help is welcome !

That's not a bad idea, George.

You don't have to do any of that. Just plug the effects send into a direct box. Remember to leave the speaker sim turned on. Sounds great through the house.

The cab sim being turned off has nothing to do with the speaker being off. They are not related. So your amp is fine.

Hi Guys,

So, the Effect send can be used effectively to output audio for a house mix, recording, etc. You do not have to close the loop (i.e. use the Effect return jack). And in regard to the Cab sim off suggestion, I would suggest that a simple listening test will help you determine whether or not you want to use Cab sim.

Best Regards,

@Alan, how do you attenuate it? Through my board (Yamaha) the signal's input is so hot and distorted I couldn't use it. And that was with the channel input pad turned all the way down. Through my friends board (Mackie) it can be turned down and sounds fine. Would using a DI box help? At the moment I'm just coming right from the amp to the board.

I had no problems into my board(no-name and cheap),attenuated correctly. You may have to adjust your volume levels for certain patches(not master volume).

Hi pathtaker,

I have tested here with a Fender Passport system. You should be able to take the Effects send directly and input it into your mixer. With a standard Gain/Trim on most consoles, the input level should be very usable. If you are using high gain Presets/Models, you may want to try turning down the channel volume. In any case, that will effectively as your output control without affecting the tone.

Best Regards,

Cab sim should always be set to "ON" when going into the board.

Hi JOKER123,

The effect send/return on the Fender Mustang III-V amps is a line out, not a speaker out. It is not intended to be used as a speaker output. It is intended as a effect send first, and an optional line out for sending signal to a line-level input. Please let me know if i can assist further.

So what if you did:

Effect send  External power amplifier  Speaker cab :?:
