I have an opportunity to buy a nearly new Mustang V. Problem being is the seller cannot find the receipt (meh). Given that I'm sure the goods aren't hot, I presume from what I've read here that the Fender transferable warranty wouldn't apply?

Would I be better off shelling out for a new head? Asking price is 3/4 the new price.

I'm about to sell my V head. The first thing I located was the receipt! If the seller don't have a receipt, there's a problem -- don't buy it! And yes, if you don't have a signed, original receipt, you don't get the warranty service!

That is not true. I bought a used G-dec Jr. off ebay. I started having a problem and I contacted Fender Support. The amp had never been registered so the only date they could go buy was the date of manufacture (for the model not the amp) which was still in the warranty period. I sent in the amp with a copy of my Paypal receipt and they replaced the amp. It did take awhile for them to decide to repair or replace. I don't know if that was the shop or Fender, as the repair shop was out of state and the local dealer delivered it and picked it up.

If the seller used Paypal he could get a copy of the transaction and most stores have computer records. The original receipt makes it easier and gets the full length of the warranty. These amps come in by the boatload but may sit in a warehouse/store for a year or more

Hi Guys,

So, RCB-CA-USA is correct. You will need to have a sales receipt to obtain warranty service on the amp. Please feel free to contact us directly for additional details and information.

Best Regards,

Given that I'm in the UK, am I right to think that Fender warranty only covers 1 year?

Hi ibis,

To confirm the warranty period on Fender products for your region, I would suggest that you contact Fender UK here: http://www.fender.com/en-GB/contact_information.php. Please let us know if we can assist further.

Best Regards,

Thanks, I did just that. Here's the reply, should anyone be in a similar situation.

Quote:
The warranty for all fender products is 2 years from the point of sale. Valves are 3 months as they are perishable. The warranty is only with the original purchaser and not transferable when sold second hand. It covers manufacturing faults and not faults which occur due to wear and tear or poor maintenance.

Its not as good as a US Fender warranty. However, there are two online companies I know of, one in UK, the other in Germany, who will sell new with a 3 year store warranty. Shame about the non-transferability of the UK Fender warranty.
