Some ideas for a future firmware (mostly M3+):

1. Remember each specific FX/amp's settings until preset switch. Right now FX/amp setting are reset as soon as you browse to a different FX/amp, even before switching a preset. So there's no easy way to compare two amps with your own temporarily tweaked settings, or two FX.

Forgetting unsaved tweaks when switching a preset makes sense, forgetting tweaks when switching to another FX/amp doesn't.

2. A new way to tweak parameters. First there was "click dial to select next parameter". More recently added was "hold amp/FX button + rotate dial to select parameter". How about another mode, perhaps selectable through the amp settings: the dial changes the selected parameter by default. Click once to "focus" on the parameter, then the dial tweaks it. Click again to "unfocus". This is similar to how the settings in dial-based computer monitors work (MAG, AOC, etc.).

3. Quicker parameter dialing. In addition to changing a parameter by small increments (<0.1) add an option to change by 1.0 when dialing while holding a certain button. That button could be "util" (the util functions would be accessed only from the home screen), or while press-holding the dial (assuming it's a momentary switch and not just a toggle).

Another option, once a parameter is focused (using the above suggestion for parameter selection), clicking the dial changes between fine adjust and fast adjust. Exit to unfocus, another exit to return to home screen. I think I like this idea better, though it won't do for the classic "click to focus on next parameter" mode.

4. Physical knobs to adjust amp/FX parameters. Instead of having the knobs tied to what the label next to them says, have them act contextually based on what the screen shows, whather it's an amp's 1st or 2nd page, or an FX. Whether this behavior is active could be configured in the settings.

5. Preset scratchpad. Instead of saving only on existing presets, have 5-10 slots for temporary presets. For permanent keeping, save again and choose one of the savable slots.

6. More footswitch modes. People suggested an option to create a preset list to cycle in. How about also a 4 preset mode for the 2 button switch? Two presets assigned per button. Pressing the same button switches between its two presets. Pressing the other button switches to the last preset used on that button. Examples:

Code:
Active preset  Button pressed  New preset
1.1            1               1.2
1.2            1               1.1
1.#            2               last one used on button 2 (2.1 initially)

This could even be extended to a preset list per button that works simiarly, but with 3+ presets per button.

7. Volume knob profile selection. Described in this older thread. This feature would be high in my priority list.

------

Or maybe, instead of all that, just have Fender release a Mustang SDK and let users create customized versions of the firmware. Fender might then choose to merge select firmware mods to the mainline. :)

Being able to quickly compare two presets would be very nice, especially for volume adjustments. IMO this does not have to be done in the firmware/on the amp, but could just as well be implemented in FUSE for all I care. Or the foot switch could somehow be assigned temporarily to switching between the two non-saved tweeked presets. Please implement this in the M2 also

Another one:

8. Toggleable tuner "snap". In tuner mode, have a key to toggle whether the indicator snaps or not (right now on the M3 it snaps at something like ±5cent). The last used mode should either be remember, or if the flash needs to be spared, have a configuration option to decide the default mode.

Global Wah Wah setting. I want a setting to be able to set the EXP-1 switch to always Wah Wah so that I can use a Wah on any patch anytime I feel like it.

I'd guess you'd run into processing power limitations. Why not just enable it specifically when you want it?

I want to be able to switch on when I want because sometimes the mood hits me and that's when I want to use it. A dedicated Wah Wah pedal (Global Assignment). The Boss GT-8 allows this.

It would be a big improvement if the Quick Access buttons could be programmed by pressing and holding the button. Basically the way car stereo buttons work.

Hi Richard001,

So, if you are talking about the Fender Mustang III-V, it is pretty friendly now. You press the Utility button once, and dial in the Preset you want for QA1, press it again and do the same for QA2 and for QA3. Or perhaps I did not understand your suggestion completely. Thanks.

I meant to press the QA buttons on the footswitch, so you don't have to touch the amp at all. You'd select the preset in mode 2 on the footswitch, then switch to mode 1 and press and hold the QA button to set it.

On stage, running back to your amp to change settings is awkward. I woud be nice if you could do it from the footswitch.

Hi Richard001,

Thanks for the clarification. So, it sounds like you are referring to being able to program the QA Presets from the foot switch. The foot switch is not able to program any settings on the amp but controls them. I will be happy to pass this idea along. In the mean time, you might want to check out customizing a group of Presets in order (numerically), so that you can use the foot switch in Up/Down mode to move through a variety of Presets of your choice. Please let me know if I can assist further. Thanks.

I would like to see the STUDIO PRE-AMP setting added to the Mustang 3 amp, that the Mustang floor has.
An acoustic simulator would be great also.
An 8 band equalizer and a parametric EQ would really be helpful.
