I have a G-DEC 3 30 and really enjoy it. I have been playing for a long time but just cords and randomness noise. :) However, with the G-DEC 30 I am getting serious about learning etc... I would also like to get a more tricked out amp in the future. Luckily my playing level is delaying that purchase. However, if I were to buy the M III in the next few months what are the odds that I would get a fixing amp? Any ideas? Does anyone know if Fender has changed the components and eliminated the fixing?

After reading all these fixing posts I'm wondering if a Line6 Spider 4 75watt would be the safer purchase? I'd love some feedback and advice.

For people reading this post, he meant FIZZ, not fix.

My bad on the spelling! Yes, FIZZ is what I meant to write. So, is it worth the risk and headache or should I consider a Line6 product? I would prefer to stay with Fender but...

This is just my personal opinion but I think its worth taking the risk.

Its hard to say what the odds are that your amp will fizz. But if you take Fender's official statement at face value, that under certain settings, using certain playing techniques, the amp may produce unwanted noise. So yeah, if you go looking for it, I think its a pretty good chance the amp will fizz to some degree or another.

BUT... The more pertinent question is what are the odds the fizz will be problematic for your playing style? And I personally believe the odds of that are very low for the majority of Mustang owners.

Also keep in mind, that Line 6, and all the rest, have their own share of reliablility issues and limitations. Your always going to have some people who love 'em and some who hate 'em for one reason or another. I would recommend you play them both, research the pros and cons of each, then make up your mind.

Thanks for the feedback. You're right all products have issues and I believe the Fender products offer the best all around features. I'm going to sell some old equipment and use that to purchase the Mustang.

One other question: is the difference between the III and IV really that great? I can't get an idea in Guitar Center because the noise level makes auditioning anything basically impossible. Unless a miracle happens I don't foresee any live playing but if the stereo feature makes a big difference with FX than the IV might be worth the extra $.

Hi, Speegman.

Between the MIII and MIV, you'll really only hear a big difference if you're using effects like Chorus and Flange. I can't remember if the Mustang has a stereo panning or "ping-pong" delay but if it does, you'll hear it then too. Reverbs are typically stereo but that's pretty subtle - especially on a guitar amp sitting behind you. Otherwise, the amp models themselves are all mono so if you turn all the effects off on both amps they should sound pretty much the same.

Some stereo units don't sum to mono very well - like my Boss GT-8. The stereo chorus sounds muddy and smeary if I'm just using the mono output. Thankfully, the Mustangs don't seem to have this problem. The chorus effect on my MII sounds great in mono.

I guess it all depends on how important stereo effects are to your playing style and needs. Personally, I love playing through a stereo rig but hate packing them around.

O.

FWIW: I bought a new M3 at GC last night and the firmware was 1.6. I downloaded the 1.9 update (took maybe 1 minute from start to finish), and am happy to report that there is no fizz on clean amp sims (Basic '57 Deluxe, Basic '65 Deluxe). Hope this helps.

Well, I pulled the trigger and bought a M III today. So far I haven't noticed any fix. I love the amp, especially being able to make the fx changes on the amp and not always via Fuse. I'm extremely lucky to have a G-Dec 3 and a Mustang. I'll check the firmware level and upgrade to be safe.
Thanks everyone for the helpful posts - it was a big help.
