Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time posting. Always loved stuff put out by Fender. Owned a few Strats, currently looking into an American Jazz Bass and this is my first Fender Amp. Needed a practice Amp to use during my work cycle in an onshore oil/gas field camp. The JamVox that I have been using just wasn't giving me that room-filling tone that I was seeking.

After comparing a lot of modelling SS amps (Fender Mustang II, Roland 40XL, Line6 Spider) I settled on the Mustang II as it just sounded the best to me; modelling amps have come a long way. Opted for the Mustang II over the III as I felt that a 100 Watts would get me kicked out of my accomodation here on site.

I do have an obsession with "fiddling", well not playing a fiddle per say, but I have the tendency to tinker with things. The Fender special design speaker sounds good and I feel that it can be even better. In addition to the local distrubtor only gives a 3-month warranty on anything Fender, this gave me the right push to persue a speaker replacement.

Following the good ole motto of "shoot now, ask questiosn later" bought an Eminence Cannabis Rex speaker and waiting for delivery (a couple of week or so).

Now to my question, Is it necessary to ground the speaker like the installed OEM? Will the performance suffer if I do not ground the speaker?

Apologies for the "longer than required" post but proper introductions is needed for first time posters :D

Hi, upirons.

I've got a C-Rex in my MII and I never reconnected the ground wire. So far, I've had no issues. I hope you enjoy your C-Rex as much as I do and I'd love to hear your take on its sound when you get it installed.

O.

I'll probaby not connect the ground at first and see how that goes. I'm going to take the back panel and fabricate an identical one to turn the MII into an open back to see which sounds better.

I'll post pics of the installation when I get the speaker in.

Received the speaker and just installed it into the Mustang II. Here are my first impressions:

-I kept the original backboard (closed back) and it didn't sound better than stock.

-Next I installed my fabricated open-back board ( it has a 20cm by 30cm cutout) and the improvement was significant. There is an overall tone improvement and it just seems fuller to me.

- At first I tried it without the ground wire and then tried it with the ground connected. I really haven't noticed any difference.

Overall I am quite happy with the speaker upgrade.
