Sure, jwoertz. I'd just like to see this thread keep going in the direction you'd intended.

Now, going back to the subject of a "Mustang Pro" line, it would be nice if Fender could maintain the amp's lightness. A properly voiced neodymium speaker and a digital switching power supply should offset the weight of quality plywood and other sturdier materials used in construction.

The OP gets the honor of top post, but can't and doesn't control the discussion. If the intended direction of the discussion is imagining a future pro mustang, my opinion, to which I'm entitled, is that Fender should first fix the problems with the current consumer-grade Mustang, which is a consumer, not pro line. My opinion is that a "pro" mustang is a bad idea, until they fix the problems with the current line and demonstrate they can do integrated modeling. Fender already has pro amps and pro solutions to modeling. That includes any number of true pro amps and now a pro-oriented modeling add-on foot unit which appears to be pro-oriented and designed. If you two want to dream away in email amongs yourselves, trade addresses. Otherwise, this is forum in which all opinions and ideas are open. Mine is that Mustang is not ready for "pro" status and I'd prefer to see them direct R&D in different directions.

OK...you've got me interested...back to the original question:

Quote:
I would love to see a higher-end Mustang amplifier line ("Mustang Pro") with a better build quality and the same general Mustang electronics. Make it a little more road-worthy and have a few more features like a balanced direct line out, an adjustable tilt leg under the amp, a metal grill and a front-facing screen and knobs for easier adjustment. I would pay more for that!

Specifically, I'd also add 1/4" audio jacks all around and a full-size USB connector. I'd even go so far as to ditch the disapointing user interface on the smaller models and pay more to have the better display and adjustments available on the III-V. But that's another deal.

How much more? For just the mechanical stuff without changing software...I'd go 10-15% more...easily. When I got my MII, average retail was about $200, often available for less. Another $25 or $30 more? That's a cable...or my share of a decent dinner out. In exchange for knowing the amp was built to last? No question.

Actually, for what it is, I'd have paid more without the improvements...but that is yet another thread...

I had a SF Bassman for a long time...treated it badly...it didn't seem to care. The Mustang...I'm very gentle with it...even with the 5-year warranty.

I think Fender missed the mark on some of their design elements and could do better to drop the consumer-grade components and style. I think they should raise the bar a bit. Too many threads about broken connectors and controls. It may or may not be a "Pro" line, but professionals seem to be using the equipment. And novices will certainly appreciate the quality we've gotten from other Fender products over the years.

So...tell Fender how much more you would pay for better features...so their marketing group gets it right the next time. I'm not sure who was in their original focus group...but they got it wrong.

Not sure about about the metal grille - I've never found them necessary... and they're kinda ugly.

It absolutely NEEDS a proper USB "B" connector

I'd pay $200.00 more for better build quality. It's more than worth it to me.

OK I'll give up the metal grille for a real USB port! Do you like the "stock" Tonkerlite speaker idea?

Having read all of the posts in this line, I would agree that there would be a market for a Pro line. Here is my summary of the posts with a few additions:

1) A real USB post

2 1/4 inch headphone, effects loops, and external speaker out, all mounted on the chasis, not on the circuit board to prevent strain breaking circuit traces.

3) Upgraded speaker, such as mentioned in several posts.

4) upgraded cabinet

5) upgraded hardware, jacks and controls.

6) tilt-back support arms

7) include the 4 button switch and exp pedal standard, perhaps also the 2 button....
perhaps even develop a single floor board that has 8 buttons and the exp pedal all together in one unit with a single multi-wire cable for interface.

8) switching power supply to reduce weight.

9) Balanced XLR outputs to send to sound board

10) add some additional controls on the front panel that match some of the "advanced" modeling controls.

11) upgraded software to allow more than one stomp box or mod effect at the same time.

12) Corner plates for armoring the amp.

13) front facing controls like the Mustang V

14) make two models ... a single 12 and a 2-12 stereo, corresponding to the III & IV.

These are not listed in order of preference, only the order I thought of them.
Any more additions to the list?
