Just dreaming here, but I would love to see a higher-end Mustang amplifier line ("Mustang Pro") with a better build quality and the same general Mustang electronics. Make it a little more road-worthy and have a few more features like a balanced direct line out, an adjustable tilt leg under the amp, a metal grill and a front-facing screen and knobs for easier adjustment. I would pay more for that!

And add a valve-driven power-amp stage instead of solid-state power-amp. All the pre-amp stuff could still be run with the DSP chip, but if you had the valve power-amp, then it would react just like a vintage tube-amp. Marshall did this with their JMD:1 amp and it sounds incredibly good. Yeah, it would drastically increase the price, but seeing how Marshall's doing really well with it, I could see people paying for it.

Oh wait, Fender already did this. It's called the Super-Champ X2.

The X2 is not really the same thing as an upgraded Mustang. It still lacks much of the features that make the Mustangs desirable. But I do like the idea of a Mustang with a valve power stage and better overall build quality (especially for those flimsy little Aux In and Phone jacks).

Does anyone remember the Cyber Twin? Those things were hella expensive but they were not lacking in quality or features. If Fender could make something that meets somewhere in between the Mustang and the Cyber Twin, they might have another winner.

I for one would be happy just to see better components and materials used in a Mustang Pro line. I'm not sure it's really necessary to have a full-on tube power section anymore - especially in the Mustangs. What if they just used a 1 watt power section (a la Vox Lil' Night Train) and had its output going into a power soak and then into a beefy solid state power amp? I think it would be a lot more reliable and sonically consistent.

I think in this case the wattage can stay the same (and no tubes). Please just give us better all-around build quality, Fender!

So buy the Fender floor and a straight-up tube amp of your choosing.

That's not the point of this particular topic. Anyone could do that. We are talking about something like a "Mustang Pro" combo amp line.

Then they should. The point of a thread is to find a workable solution. Think outside the box. Fender may or may not take your suggestion and may or may not act on it in the future. If you want a solution today, then suggestion is a perfectly sound workaround. I would actually argue that it is more flexible than the original proposition.

That would imply that every thread is about a problem which is simply not the case. The OP was simply stating something that he wished Fender would do.

The OP wasn't looking for a solution "today", nor was he looking for a workaround or a "more flexible" proposition.

Can't we forum members just posit an idea or a wish? Fender may or may not build a Pro version of the Mustang but what's the harm in talking about it?

Talking about ideas is a big part of forums.
O.

As the OP, I can tell you that this is not the point of the thread. This thread is not about workable solutions. It's about a products line for the future.

Are you assuming the Fender Floor is of a better build quality then the amps? Cause if its built with the same cheap plastic bits your going to have some of the same problems.

Honestly though, a Mustang Floor into a Tech 21 Power Engine would be sweet, and could be had for a total price of $640 US. If the Floor is a durable, reliable piece of kit, I'd do something like that.

But how cool would it be if Fender came out with a similar set up in one nice neat, quality, package.

There's really just a couple of glaring issues with these amps. They are pretty solid otherwise. If they could fix those issues in the next generation, even with a small price hike, it would be worth it IMO.

Except that he's talking about an idea for a new product and you're intent on "solving a problem" and insist on your idea for solving a problem perceived only by you. Can you not see the difference? We're not trying to solve a problem.
