Hi everyone,

I own a Mustang III since 1 month already and been playing in my house generally. I never go up with Master volume more then 3 cause it's loud enough. But yesterday I made a jam session with a drummer and I couldn't hear the guitar enough so I turn up the volume at 7-8 with the preset of a "Metal 2000" amp.
Now I hear my amp sounding more darker then before, is it possible that I broke something? Or I'm just trippin' out? Does the amp have a limiter that stops if the volume is too high??

The guy at the music shop said that nothing's happened and it's ok but I still hear my amp sounds more darker then before like the tweeter broke up.

Thanks,

Simone.

it's called breaking in the speaker. That is if the sound is not muffled (as you put a blanket over the amp and/or buzzy (as in electric toothbrush), if it's the case, you busted the speaker and this is not covered by warranty.

Now you need to adjust the eq of every preset on the amp to consider that increase in low end, which is a good thing btw your speaker now has an increased range.

When I've blown speakers, they've buzzed, rattled, gotten distorted at even low volumes, and basically make non-musical sounds.

I'm wondering if you turned the tone down on your guitar or the amp presets when you were playing loud. Treble becomes brighter as volume goes up, so maybe you adjusted some tone knobs while playing?

I will say this about amps in general--to me they don't always sound the same two days in a row. I don't know if it's my ears or what, but some days I'm turning the treble down, and some days I can't get it high enough. My theories are: barometric pressure, humidity, or ears finally giving out after decades of rock & roll.

I doubt the speaker is blown. If you add treble to a preset that sounds dark are you able to hear the treble that has been added?

The sound of my Mustang III has changed noticeably with playing over time from when it was new.

I am sure that the speaker has 'loosened up' and I like the 'darker', fuller tone I get now, which is less harsh that it sounded 'out of the box'.

Also, playing at 7-8 rather than 3 on a 100watt amp, with high gain and in a full band setting, there is bound to be some perceptible change to the tone. My amp can sound quite different when set alongside other instruments in a live mix, compared to how it sounds played alone at home.

Yep, It sounds to me like the speaker isn't broke... just broke in.
