Looking for help with a problem with my Mustang III - not even a year old yet. I love this amp and this is the first problem I have encountered with it.

For some reason, after playing for about 30 minutes the volume drops by about 90% - almost silient. I did the latest firmware update yesterday and it still has the same problem. I can get sound back only after turning the amp off for a minimum of 10 minutes or so. If I turn it on earlier than that, the muted sound remains. After the 10 minutes, it goes back to normal but it loses volume again if played for about a half hour.

I did a search and it seemed like one other person on the forum had this problem last yr but did not post a solution.

Sounds like something inside the amp that gets loose with heat accumulation. You let it cool down and it goes back to normal. I'd call Fender directly and set up some kind of fix/replace. It's got a 5-year warranty and if you haven't ever tried to break it or mod it, you should be good.

hey,

sounds like ffxihealer is on to something there. i guess you could try putting a small fan on the amp, which may or may not solve the problem.

but your best bet to get it fixed before it gets worse.

the amp should not be doing that.

The fan's not going to do anything if it's a closed-back cabinet, which is what I suspect. You'd have to open it to cool it properly...which would void your warranty.

Just call Fender.

...today.

Thanks guys.

Loren - was able to contact Consumer Relations today. Bringing it to my local authorized repair Tech.
Any idea what this may be? I have had Fender amps for years without an issue and this is my first non-tube amp so I am a little freaked by the technology failing so quickly. Until now this was a perfect recording/headphone home practice amp.

Do you think this recording chain has anything to do with the amp problems? Overload?

I had been using it lately with Audacity with the amp connected to my laptop via USB and the laptop headphone line out to the auxiliary on the amp (so I can hear backingtracks/recorded tracks) while using the headphones through the amp to monitor.

Thanks for your help! Just trying to avoid the same problem once it is back and repaired.

Hey J,

I seriously doubt you did anything to cause that behavior. Electronics fail. That's what warranties are for.

I also doubt that a new or repaired unit is going to have the same problem. I"ve seen one or two cases of this out of tens of thousands of amps sold.
