Seeing as the models are identical to the Mustang's, I'm wondering about this. :?:

Specifically, I'm really leaning lately to the Super Champ X2 head/12-in. Celestion enclosure.

Any info would be appreciated.

If I was a gambling man, I'd bet on no fizz.

Because it's a tube/solid state hybrid and its only 15 watts. The fizz, so far, only appears on the MIII and up (SS power and preamp, 100w and up).
And there's no LCD screen that has also been theorized to cause noise interference.
And its made in Mexico, not China. Better quality cheap parts.

Well.. before I purchased my Mustang iii I played both for about 2 hours before settling on the Mustang...

Keep in mind I would NOT put them in the same category. The X2 is a great little practice amp that does NOT have the projection that the Mustang has...

I would also like to add that the X2 I played on the digital modes sounded absolutley horrible... I was not impressed with the sound... BUT I was impressed with the clean sound - it sounded very warm and accurate.

Also I would like to add that in the digital mode there was an apparent Buzz when driving the speaker (Not very hard either). I was shocked and so was the staff at the store.. we played with it for a while (settings, checked for loose hardware, etc.)and only found this issue under the digital mode... the Clean channel did not exhibit this issue no matter how loud we made the amp... Soooo we must suspect an issue with the the Digital channel (defect with that unit) OR a new issue (instead of Fizz they have Buzz)...

I would also like to add I felt the Mustang as an overall amp was a better value... taking into account loudness, tone, features, etc. etc. etc... The Tone of the X2 was superior BUT not by much. If you take into account its weak output the Mustang wins out...

Now I did NOT evaluate the X2HD with the separate cabinet - that could be the game changer... So net net is I would NOT recommend the X2 over the Mustang III as I consider them to be two different amps for two different purposes... The X2 HD MAY be closer but still with only 15 Watts of Tube power - you still cant compare it to 100 Amps of Solid State Power... I do compare them to the Mustang II but honestly now we are talking not even in the same ball park on price...

I almost feel that the X2 are for those who are professional players that some times need configurable effects and do not own any pedals and will Mic up the amp alll the time when playing/recording, OR just need a small practice amp, OR hobbyist that just wants to say they own a tube amp... - the tone and quality of the clean is only 10% better then the Mustang - which honestly I dont think can be heard outside of a studio.

I dont see the value for the cost differential at this point for the X2 - The X2 needed to have a better quality speaker with a little more wattage to equal the value / quality that it is commanding OVER the Mustang OR other competitive amps (IE Vox 40).

Thanks for these thoughts.

I hate feeling this way. I hate not being able to trust Fender, at least when it comes to digital modeling. This company practically defined the quintessential American sound for rock and blues. These guys practically *invented* modern popular music, and here I am, leaning toward a UK-made Marshall Class 5.

I hate this.

Fender offered me an x2 as a replacement for a fizzing mIII. It's a tolerable practice amp but isn't a gigging amp unless you mic it through a beefy PA. Then, it wouldn't be bad. I said no, because it is not a functional replacement for a gigging amp like the mIII for small / med venues without a significant house PA.

If Fender offered me the same thing in HEAD/CAB version, I might do it. I'm on my FIFTH Mustang III.
