I need help choosing my next pedal. Let me give you a quick rig rundown. I have a Martin Acoustic OOOX1AE and a Dean Custom 350 Electric which is what I mainly use for what I do. For Amps I have a fender mustang I. (I also have an old super loud Peavey Bandit that just blows the doors off when it is set to 2) Anyway, I use the Mustang to play every Sunday at church. We play rock and about 5 different sounding songs every Sunday. I am torn. The Mustang comes with the 36 presets, but I go with a clean sound and then make a specific one that goes with a song. For example if we play My Sisters and Brothers by Jerry Garcia Band, I use either an organ effect or a preset that is like Jerry’s Guitar. I use a Hosa footswitch to go back and forth between the preset I choose and my clean sound. It is embarrassing to turn down my volume and turn around and switch to a third preset so I use the clean setting to mix it up with my pedals. I have (In Order:)

Original Crybaby Wah, TU2 Tuner, Carvin Tube Overdrive (It is a POS) Then BD2, Then TR2 Tremolo, then PH2 Super Phaser (youd be surprised how many church songs I can get away using this on) and a nice Danelectro Cool Cat Chorus that I never use. I also have a dead non working Boss Digital Delay. The wah is borrowed and I dont like it because the 9v hookup is way indented and my daisy chain wont hook up to it. I also have the 2 way footswitch) I use this order based on your videos!!!
My four choices are 1. Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer, 2. Aqua $@!&, 3. Boss ST-2 Power Stack or the 4. Morley PDWII Distortion/wah/volume. A friend said get the tube screamer. I want the 3 in 1 since I want a different wah and really think a volume pedal would help, but I cant make myself buy just a volume pedal, but its a 3 in 1 and I hear bad things about that. I want the Aqua $@!& because it is just sick and I love what I have seen so far online, and the Power Stack is new and shiny, but I think I am counting that one out since my BD2 really does the job I need it for. Which of these 4 would you choose or do you have a 5th totally different recommendation and why? I really appreciate any help

It would help if you could narrow down for us exactly what you want this pedal to do to your sound. The TubeScreamer is a great Overdrive pedal, but a lot of people use it just as a signal boost for their tube amp to push the pre-amp harder. I have the BOSS Power Stack ST-2 myself and I get a great Marshall sound out of it, from vintage Plexi break-up to all-out JVM-style hi-gain distortion. It even LOOKS kinda like a Marshall. LOL But it's not very useful for your Mustang amp since they have two Marshall amps already built-in: a Marshall Plexi and a JCM800 (with a bit less gain). I don't know about the other two pedals you mentioned.

Again, let us know what kind of effect you're trying to get out of the new pedal so we can taylor our recommendations to what you want/need.

In Reply, I am a pretty big Lincoln Brewster fan and really like his sound. If you watch this video you can get a good feel for the sound I am looking for. I am burnt out on trying presets to get this sound but any advice on the next pedal or even a good preset would help. http://youtu.be/GiL6xqmMQoc

Well, I just got almost exactly what he's doing on that video with my M5 and NO pedal...hell, even no effects from the amp, though I can't hear delays or reverbs very well.

Anyway, try this on your amp using FUSE:

AMP: Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb
CAB: 65DLX
GAIN: ~7.7 (might want some more)
VOL: to taste - I was on 7.0. (default for preset 92)
TREBLE: 6.4 (default for preset 92)
MIDDLE: 8.3 (default for preset 92)
BASS: 2.9 (default for preset 92)

I basically turned my M5 to preset 92 (which is a basic Deluxe Reverb with no effects) and turned the gain up until it started to break up (overdrive). This gives a very bluesy, jazzy sound that he's using in that video to good effect. Of course, also keep in mind that in his soloing, he was using the neck single-coil pickup of his Fender Stratocaster. The other pickups won't sound that smooth through this amp preset (more harsh).

Your Mustang 1 won't have this amp on any saved preset by default. You have to do that through FUSE. I rewrote all 24 of my presets (on my Mustang II) so that F-RED is the '65 Deluxe Reverb with gain up (like what we're doing here), F-GREEN is the standard '65 Twin Reverb, and F-AMBER is the '65 Princeton amp. Of course, all of my presets are set up so that GREEN is clean, RED is high-gain, and AMBER is anything else in-between...or just different. Like, for the Mesa amp (American '90s) I used C-AMBER the same as C-RED but I use the 4x12V cab instead of the 4x12M on the RED channel. For A-RED, I changed the cab to 4x12M and left the default 4x12G for the A-AMBER channel.

Thanks so much. I think that will work. I am trying to get a mix of Lincoln Brewster and a little John Mayer but to make it my own sound. I think I am going for the volume wah combo for now since that seems to be the best choice since I have all the presets.
GREAT IDEA about Green Clean and Red High Gain. I am going to totally rework all of my presets. Do you have any in the downloads that you prefer or use most besides what you made yourself?

To be honest, I haven't downloaded ANY presets. I worked the amp myself with FUSE to find sounds I liked, then saved them to the amp. But I'm a tinkerer anyway.

And a foot-controlled Wah pedal is the only thing the Mustang doesn't have built-in, so that'd probably be the best/most important tool for you. If I played more that needed it, I'd probably get one myself....then make a pedal board with all of my BOSS pedals.
