Since there is no line out on the mustang v, has anyone used the headphone jack to run the amp straight to your board or would it be better to mic the amp?

Right from the Specs

"1/8" Headphone Jack doubles as Speaker Emulated Line Out"

Thus the headphone jack IS your line out... I would Mic it up only if the speaker cabinet itself presents a uniqueness to the sound your are looking for over the line out which is going to be head only sound.... Its up to you...

Is it safe to run the Mustang V Head no connected to a speaker cabinet if you're using the headphone out socket?

Yes. That's how I used the V head and never had a speaker hooked up to it, ever, not once. And then many months later when I brought the V head in to sell it, they hooked it up to a V cab to make sure it worked and the thing functioned exactly as it was supposed to -- it sounded nice via the cab! But, the V head was way too much power for my environment so I got something less powerful. 150 watts is a lot of power. I'm working with 5 watts now, much better for my needs!

Thanks.

I'm actually thinking that it would make a decent practise amp running through the line out, but thanks to having plenty of power could double as a backup for my main amp for gigging or for taking to jam nights...

Hi Guys,

The Fender Mustang V head can be safely operated with or without the speaker cabinet connected. Please let me know if I can assist further.
