Hi, does anyone have any tips for balancing the relationship between the gain and volume controls (master included) for the richest tones. I understand what they do, but just wondered if anyone has had interesting results with different combinations on the mustang 2

You really should tell us what presets you prefer (and btw what a "rich" tone means to you ...) because the different amp-modells behave dramatically different to the gain / volume settings in getting a special kind of tone. You cannot compare the american 90th to the Twin. And you forgot the most important controls: the vol and tone potis of your guitar, how do you wish to interact them with the amp?

+1 for using your guitar volume

I don't realy consider myself any kind of expert on tone shaping, but here's more or less my general method for dialing in a non-specific tone...

I usually start with my guitar volume around 8 (maybe its just me but it seems to be the sweetspot for my Strat) and master volume at a desired loudness. As you adjust other levels on the amp you can adjust the master to maintain desired loudness.

Adjust gain till you find a pleasing tone.

You may find a lot of times that when you increase the gain you come to a point where it starts to muddy the tone. So try the following,

Back off the gain and increase the amp volume.

Crank up the gain and decrease the amp volume.

Fine tune with your guitar volume. In most cases you can clean up a heavily distorted tone just by turning this down.

I agree with above - my Les Paul is best at 7 or 8 to get the best tonal quality. BUT every different profile unfortunately has different volume levels - I always have to play with the master volume as I change profiles unfortunately. - Its a pain and I wish the volume was normalized across all profiles (I am using out of the box presets).

I tend to favour vintage and classic rock tones. As a previous owner of tube amps I'm used to using the guitar vol but wondered about getting the best out of this amp I'm new to the whole modeling thing. Btw I'm loving the '57 Deluxe model
