Many amps and cabs come up in google search results as being STEREO. When you read the spec you find they are simply mono combos with 2 or 3 channels for low/high gain etc.

The Mustang actually appears to be stereo but when I read the spec it said 1 channel amp which implied it was a mono amp driving 2 x speakers.

Looking a little deeper it appears some of the effects are in stereo which would suggest to me that amp is actually STEREO, yes?

Thing is I have a PEAVEY VYPR 30 and Sanpera II I don't use because I like stereo effects. Got 2 very good stereo effects processors... could I feed a stereo signal from a separate stereo effects unit into the Mustang IV or are the stereo effects purely restricted to the Mustang's own effects?

Read through the manual now. Pretty certain it's stereo now!

I guess I will sell my Peavey VYPR 30 and Sanpera II.

Yes - it's definitely stereo. I own a Mustang 4. Depending on the preset and whether or not any stereo effects are selected will determine whether you can hear the stereo.

Hope that helps.

Well from what I have read of the manual you can plug in external stereo effects and bypass the internal effects which I would want sometimes.

Strictly speaking, the Mustang IV and V are only stereo from the effects to the power amp and speakers. The amp models should all be mono - unless they included a model of a Roland JC-120 in the MIV and V.

The manual shows the Mustang IV having LEFT/RIGHT FX inputs, if those inputs yielded a mono output it would make no sense having left & right. This is why I need to check though because the information given on the website is poor and the manual could be clearer about exactly what people are getting.

It has an AUX input for MP3 too, one would also assume this is stereo since it says you can use a mini stereo cable.

The reference to Stereo relates to stereo effects only (most are mono); otherwise you have mono sound but from 2 speakers.

In reality this is all a misnomer anyway...the speakers in a 2x12" combo are much too close for bona-fide stereo separation and the difference is negligible. Same in my AD120VTX. You need a head and two cabs at least 6 ft apart to noticeably benefit from stereo.

Precisely. Those are the effects inputs and yes they are "stereo" (sort of but not really - I'll explain in a bit) but the amp models are absolutely mono. Think about it, are any of the real versions of the modeled amps stereo? No, they're all mono in real life. Internally, the Mustangs' amp modeling output could be split into two identical signals (but still mono) and sent to the effects processor but I doubt that they do this. I'd bet that the effects processors on the Mustangs are just like most dedicated effects processors (even some of the more expensive ones) in that even though it has a L/R input physically, those two signals are summed to mono and a stereo signal is created by the effects processor itself. Why, because to have a true stereo effects unit, you'd have to have two processors to deal with the left and right channels separately. That would make them more expensive and as I said the amp models are mono.

Some of the effects are in stereo. I have a Mustang V and 2 2x12 to take advantage of the stereo effect. Stereo also comes through the headphones.

Also have an Digitech RP-355 that has stereo effects! (run through FX Return)

Hey Guys,

The Mustang has stereo effects. You can definitely hear the stereo space in effects like ping pong delay.
