So, on a whim I decided to connect my GT-8 to my MII. This opened up a lot more possibilities for the for the MII! Of course an effects loop on the MII would have been more optimal but this arrangement doesn't exactly suck.

The GT-8's ability to control an amp's channel switching capability works great on the MII. Using that and combining some of the GT-8's preamp sims sans cab sims and huge array of multi-effects has given the amp access to a much wider palette of sounds. There also doesn't seem to be any kind of "tone loss" in putting the GT-8 between the guitar and amp. As long you're careful not to overdrive the Mustang's front end, everything sounds great. I now have presets on the GT-8 that uses just the Mustang's models or combined with one from the 8. Way cool! Using one GT-8 bank, it's like having an 8 button footswitch - like if each of Fender's 4 button one gave you access to 2 different sounds. :D

So the Mustang + Pedal is a good idea?

No sound loss??

Cause i want to buy some pedals.
Dightech BandMonkey Overdrive and Big Muff Pi.

But i'm afraid to have a bad sound.
Sound loss, you know?

How could i set up the amp?
All clean??

Hey felipenobrega,

The consensus here seems to be that your pedals will work just fine with the Mustang. You'll just want to be cautious of your settings (Gain, Volume, etc.) when using OD pedals and such. These amps don't take pedals the same way that tube amps do so a little experimenting may be necessary.

How did you get the GT-8 amp control working with the mustang? How did you connect the amp control out's to the footswitch inputs on the Mustang?

The Mustang 1 and 2 have a 'simple' footswitch that just makes/breaks a circuit, the same as (eg) the channel-switching control on other amps. This is exactly what the output of units like the GT-8 can control.

However the Mustang 3, 4 and 5 have a digital footswitch connection. The GT-8 wouldn't be able to control that.

Hi Orcatraz

Wondering if you are still using this combo and how you are liking it. I have a GT6 and gave it a whirl and was pretty pleased with using a few of the GT6 OD's with the Mustang II. Particularly the Blues Driver, Tube Screamer, and ProCo OD's and even the Fuzz Face to my ears were pretty cool. Haven't gotten into using any of the Time Based effects but hoping to check that out over the weekend. The GT6 doesn't have an amp control but i made one out of a DI box i wasn't using so i'm all set there. Seems like a simple cool little setup and i can work on getting a new Bridge pickup rather than an OD pedal the next go around.

Cheers

Hi, captainc.
I haven't had the need to use the GT-8 with the Mustang in a while. I only used that combination for a short while and it as a good sounding experiment but felt somewhat unnecessary. The Mustang's sound and feel is so enjoyable that I just didn't really feel the need the GT's effects.

Thanks, I agree. I messed around with it again this weekend and just didn't feel like sitting there tweaking it. I may just sell or trade it in. It served its purpose and was a lot of fun but i need to simplify.
