This may be a silly question but gotta ask it. Can the mustang III amp be used for bass guitar?

I plan too use mine for bass...as soon as I save up for a new bass. I played bass for years and gave them up @ 5years ago, and realy miss them.

But that said I would just use caution on volume levels. Obvoiusly bass play in compleatly different frequencies than guitar does. Mainly effecting the speaker. Get rumbling to loud and I imagine the speaker cone wouldnt last to long. I bought my Mustang strickly for home playing where I have no need for ear blowing volumes. So this is how I would justify using it for bass in my mind. YMMV

I was wondering the same thing. Wish someone from Fender would have answered this by now.

It works but I have no idea for how long or if it would hurt the amp. I tried it last night with the Bassman profile and it sounded good. Cranked the volume all the way up but doubt that I ever try that again. Thought it was going to vibrate my guts apart. My dog didn't seem too happy about it either.

Last I heard, the official Fender stance on using a Bass guitar with the Fender Amp is that IF something goes wrong with your Mustang and you've been using a Bass guitar, it won't be covered by warranty. Fender does not guarantee the amp's functions with a Bass guitar. The Mustang series of guitar amplifiers were only designed to work with a standard electric guitar. You might be able to get away with a 7-string or some detuning.

Fender's most worried about the speaker, I think. Those 12" were never designed to run those kind of bass frequencies.

Having said that, I've plugged my bass up to my Mustang 2 and didn't have any problems, especially with the '59 Bassman setting, but it was only for a few minutes at a time.

I once played a bass guitar through a guitar amp with Vintage 30 speaker--not even very loud--and ruined the speaker. I had to pay to have it re-coned. As far as I'm concerned, bass guitars belong with bass amps/speakers. I would think you'd be better off just getting a Fender Bronco amp.

In addition, the fizz must be just awful when playing a bass through the MIII. Those low notes on regular guitar are the ones where the fizz is most apparent and annoying.

Ok thanks for the advice. Probably not worth the risk.

It's not only the speaker but also the cabinet that makes most guitar amps unsuitable for bass. The airtight seal is what helps give bass amps the extended low freq response.

Well, there ya go! Fender makes some very loud bass amps in deceptively small packages too at very competitive pricing. My daughter's lil' 15 watt bass amp was very impressive in terms of tone and output.
