I know Fender will not respond.

Fender has turned into crap. And people should know it.

Go to a Guitar store and try a Mustang III. If you hear a FIZZ don't buy it. But at least go play it!
Have a Mustang V and Vypyr 30. Two different animals! But I Like them both. I use two 2x12 with the Mustang V for the stereo effects!
Don't bad mouth Fender because the Mustang I & II need a computer to take full advantage of the amp!

Mustang III - Digital Aliasing (Strange Fizz Sound)

Thanks bborzell for your useful posts. I agree with comments on the Cube line too, I use a Cube 30 modified for a live band into my mixer without issue.

I thought I would post my first hand experience as an aid to those looking at this as help in a buying decision. I post very little but read much, including every page of this over the months to see what direction the product would go.

About a year ago I wanted an amp for serious practice that had some features and the MIII appealed to me as I am comfortable with a PC. My goal was to make up for some lost time in playing due to work situations so I was looking forward to plug and play with a focus on PLAYING the guitar again. I will just do a short list to summarize my actual experience.
-Fuse software loading problems -wasted many hours resolving- I was not one of the lucky ones on WinXP

-Enjoyed getting some tone varieties from the amp but I play alot of clean sounds and was annoyed by the results. (for those of you that do not think this is an issue never mind recordings or live use-- did you ever try to learn a new style or song and play a section 100 times over to learn it? ) So I have not wasted my time chiming in on many comments on the forum. In my opinion the fuzziness of the cleans was annoying to me.

-Fender support was always courteous and available.

-When it appeared there was no fix in for this I finally got them to admit that sending it in for repair was not a fix and the only way I could get a replacement was to pay shipping back to them and they would send me another like value product. So I could
a- live with it
b-send it back for a different product
c- sell or trade it locally
I opted for b and requested a SuperChamp XD. (a friend uses one frequently and I even run the sound system for them often, so I knew I would be far happier with this product)

So Fender was out quite a few hours of time and paperwork and so was I plus lost shipping and hours/days messing with the product.

Ok those are facts the following is my opinion only......ymmv
So looking back at my experience if I was asked about an opinion on buying a Mustang at all..... it depends on what your expectations are.

I am happy with the XD as a tool just turn it on and use the foot switch no PC needed, line out and speaker options. I can focus on playing and technique. (yea I know it has little hiss or noise floor issues if we want to get scientific but that is not my point here, they are minor compared to what the MIII did to clean tones.) The splash of tube tone is nice too.

As a concept I like the Mustang idea and would only go up the line to MII based on what I have heard so far if clean tones matter to you. It frustrated me to hear good tones from the headphone output that I would have been happy with. The design idea here is full of value and features.
If you like to rock out and the lack of out puts for a PA or mics are good for you go for it, these amps make a wide variety of useful sounds.

I am watching the results on the new SCX2 to see if the new power amp match up will avoid fuzzy and phasing sounds from the new features.

So hope this helps someone out there. Music is a really enjoyable part of life and the equipment used diverse.

I owned a Mustang 3 for a year without a single complaint. It does that Fender sound very well...no fizzing. From what I have gathered there was a particular production run that somehow escaped a quality control check (It MUST have, because I have heard some mp3 examples on this forum and there is NO mistaking that the amp sounds terrible...how could it be otherwise?). I would buy another one again if I needed a Fender amp at a particular price point...It has some VERY usable effects and it was perfect for gigging around town with the singer/songwriter I was working with at the time.

I bought a Hot Rod Deluxe a while back (sold the MIII to offset the cost) and then proceeded to buy about 1000 dollars worth of effects to go with it...so that puts me up around 1600 dollars total expenditure. Was the money I spent worth it? OH HELL YEAH! Was the 300 dollars I initially spent on my Mustang 3 worth it? Gotta say yeah to that too! Go to the music store, try out a Mustang 3 and if you like it get one. If they go back to the storeroom to get you a new one in the box, make sure you can take it back if you find it has that "fizz". From what I understand, the noise will show up almost immediately upon playing with it if not within the first week.

This will probably ruffle the feathers of some Peavy owners but, while I will admit that Peavy gets a fine high gain/metal sound (better than Fenders), it only does that ONE sound well (a good analogy would be thinking of yourself as an artist doing an oil painting and only having black and white color paints to make your masterpiece with). I am looking for a bit more of a versatile tone, personally.

If you are still leery of the M3, you might want to check out a Super Champ or Vibro Champ. It has tubes and DFX onboard and gets VERY loud for such a small package...Also I have heard ZERO complaints about it. Some people like the Frontman series as well. It won't sound as a good as a Fender tube amp but, I'll bet it would do the trick just fine if you put a POD or some other multi FX pedal in front of it.

Friends don't let friends buy Peavys.

Several people, including me, have reported that onset of fizz occurred some period of time after the 30 day return period expired.

Oh that really bites! All I can possibly recommend is looking at another amp outside of the Mustang....there ARE used MIIIs out there too. I really liked mine!

I had a Mustang V, sold it. Now I have an Egnater Tweaker 15. Best decision I have made in a long time...

I've been a fan of Peavey for years and think Bandits should be in the amp hall of fame. They've graced more bar room stages than any other amp.

With that said there is no way I'm getting suckered into the recent marketing trend they and others like Line6 follow.

It SHOULD NOT cost $100 to change channels on a $200 amp with a "special" (not to mention ugly" foot pedal.

That's for starters. Surf a little and you'll find Vyprs have known issues.

Hey Twangster,

I apologize for the delay. Regarding your question, I'm afraid I don't have any new information for you other than what has been stated officially by Fender.

viewtopic.php?f=27&t=59203

Congrats on your purchase though. Peavey makes some great products.

I agree with Howard. For that money you spend for mustang amp gain it the most bang for the buck...

The truth is there are better amplifiers, but they cost more money.

I just got a Mustang III a little while ago. It started fizzing after about 2 hours of playing. It sounded just like the link posted above but the firmware update took care of it completely.
