Hi there 8)

I've had my Mustang III 48 hours and very happy, just curious though :

The auxillary imput for my MP3 player (Sony by the way, no cheapie) seems a bit weak in volume. Sure I can crank up the Amp's master volume but it still doesn't change the balance of mp3 to guitar volume. Yes, I have MP3 player up full volume. Before I start getting down to the general business of experimenting with preset patches, is there a buried level setting for the auxillary input ?.

I just want my mp3s, which are jamming backing tracks, to be heard at a decent volume instead of having to lug an extra portable stereo around to practice. I realise the amp was not designed as a general wav/mp3 playback device, but I hope there is someone out there that can help.

Unfortunately there is no level control for the aux input.

Can other people share their experience with Aux input?

On the M3 here I also find it too low volume to be useful combined with a guitar. Using a cellphone as the playback device I can actually get it louder directly from the phone. It does sound better through the M3, but softer.

If it's not possible to add AUX volume control thru firmware, maybe the reverse, adding a virtual master volume control to the guitar channel? (One that doesn't affect modeling behavior.)

Hi mpr,

Thanks for your input here. Generally we are not hearing too much about this. But I take your point. As it sounds like you are finding, different devices will have a different output level, thus affecting the playback level coming into your amp. But I will follow up with our engineers and add this as a feature feature request. Please let us know if we can assist further.

I'm looking at a Mustang 1. One of the main things I want to do with it is practice along with songs I had planned on running into the Aux In with my iPhone. I will jam with the songs.

So, it sounds like this function isn't really very useful for that purpose? If you have to crank the master volume way up to get a decent volume, is there a bunch of noise?

I guess I would balance the guitar/iPhone mix by cranking up the amp (to bring the accompanying track up) and lowering my tele volume until I find a balance. Am I thinking right on that. Will I lose a bunch of tone on the tele if I have to turn down so much?

My iPhone works great on aux input. No problem whatsover with not enough volume. Between the guitar volume, amp volume, master volume and volume on your iPhone, you will be able to achieve a fine mix.

Thanks for the info! It's a big part of what I want the amp to do.

I don't have any problems with my Insignia (Best Buy Brand) CD/MP3/WMA/FM radio Player. Model NS-P4113, cost $20 came with batteries ( 2 x AA) and a set of headphones. It's round, 5.5 inch diameter by 1.25 inch thick. Very useful, for when I take the Mustang outside away from my desktop computer.
I put all my backing tracks from my computer onto CDs. This way I can hook up my backing tracks via the Aux in on the Mustang 2 that I have and the players volume is not even half way up. Loads of volume to blow the roof off. This is with the amp set at normal volume level that I play at. I don't have to crank the master to make the MP3,s loud enough.
One thing to make sure of on your MP3 players, use the phones output to the Aux in on the Mustang. If you use a line out it may be too low a signal, and the volume control only operates the volume to the phones output. Just something to consider before investing more money on your music quests.
P.S
If you put the backing tracks on your computer to use with the FUSE Software (As I have)
Put them in the Documents/Fender/FUSE/Audio/WaveMP3 folder. Thats where FUSE looks for them on my PC. On a Mac I guess it would be a similar path.
Hope this helps.

That would be a great feature.
I also have some trouble with some mP3 players.
They haven't enough volume out to be input in the mix without having to modified the setting of the preset deeply (gain/vol).

An AUX input level that could be stored with the preset would be in those cases very much appreciated.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your feedback on this. It is true that different media players will have varying output levels. Smart phones may have a hotter output for example in some cases. I will pass along a message to the engineers on this one as well.

Cheers,

Hi Guys,

I have an update regarding the Aux in concerns here. And is answer is as follows. The Aux input on the Fender Mustang Series amps is analog and therefore is fixed in regard to the input level. Again, you will likely find that some media players will output at a higher (max.) level than others. Please let us know if we can assist further.

Thanks for the quick update. Does anyone have a user experience using an iPhone4 as their mp3 source in terms of decent volume coming out the Mstang? Thanks.

I have an RCA mp3 player, and have plenty of volume, I use for play along tracks to learn new material.
