Hey Donny,

You don't want to use Y cables and that sort of thing. You could damage the amp. The right speaker jack will output a mono signal if the left side isn't connected.

You know, that's something that a lot of us could have used if we'd have known about it, or it were included in the documentation. :x

If using the right channel only, will I only get the full 150W or only half of it?

This would have been really nice to know. I went to Radio Shack and bought a 1/4"-1/8" cable to go from the headphone out into the insert on the back of my 212. I have the V412 now, but it would have saved me alot of headache to know about that sooner...

Guys, as far as I know, for all intents and purposes, unless you're using a stereo effect, the MIV and MV is mono. Without any stereo effects engaged, it will send identical signals to the left and right outputs... unless Fender made their amp models stereo which I don't think is the case.

That being said, Loren Howard, could you please clarify? Does plugging into the right speaker output only sum the left and right signals coming into the power amp or does it simply ignore the other channel? While this latter scenario would technically be "mono", it would also be missing the information from the other channel. While it's not particularly crucial, it can have an unexpected/unwanted effect on say a "Panning or Ping Pong Delay" effect in that you'd hear only half of the echoes you'd normally hear. It can also have a weird effect on some stereo choruses - ones that pan the chorused signal to one side and the dry signal to the opposite side. You'd either get the chorused signal only or no chorus at all depending on how the chorus unit pans the wet/dry signals.

Furthermore, GTGeorge suggested using a "Y" cable in the effects loop. I don't understand how this could possibly damage the MV's power amp in that it would simply be getting a summed L/R mono signal instead of a left only or right only signal. If plugging into the right speaker output only does in fact sum the incoming stereo signals, then using a "Y" cable in the effects loop would produce the exact same results.

O

Hi Guys,

So, there are several questions/ideas being discussed here. And my apologies on behalf of the Technology Support Lab that we have not followed up on this discussion sooner. We are working to improve this now. With that said, the best way to to run the Fender Mustang V head and cabinet in mono would be to use the right output from the head to the right input on the cabinet. I think you will find that the output level is very good even when used in this way. Of course, run the amp in stereo whenever posible. It is more fun. :) I will be happy to pass along the other comments and ideas to the right folks here. Please let me know if I can assist further.

Cheers,
