I am unable to search presets on the "web" source. Amp and PC work.

Preconditions

Windows 7 64-bit.
The amp (Mustang I) is plugged in and turned on.
FUSE (v 2.4.1) is started and I am logged in (green square in the bottom right of the window).
In Media Library, I can browse and download presets from "web".
"COMPUTER", "AMP" and "WEB" buttons below the search field are all enabled (red).

Problem

In the search field, I type in a search phrase, e.g. "clean", and press enter. After around two seconds, the media library view is updated to show hits from sources "PC" and "AMP", but there are none from "WEB".

Am I doing anything wrong, is there a technical problem, or am I mistaken in my view that the search function should also search among the web presets?

I have tried disabling the antivirus software, and logging out and in to FUSE.

I use Vista but this works for me ...

Login>Go to Media Library>Input search term>Click WEB (make sure it's red)>Click GO

You can search at the same time in any or all of the 3 locations ... just make sure the location of interest is red

Usually it's fairly quick but sometimes it requires a slight wait to return a result for a WEB search

Thanks KenB5.

It still doesn't show any web hits for me. However, today I noticed something I didn't see before:

After a search, there is a page indicator in the bottom right corner of the panel with the presets hits. The number of available pages change when I search for different phrases. E.g. "blues" gives three pages while "rock" gives five pages. If I click on a page number, the panel blanks out, except for page one which shows the amp and pc hits.

So it seems to get the number of hits from the web, just not the hits themselves.

I have tried disabling the windows firewall but no difference.

@Fender: Perhaps your developers could tell me a command line option to Fuse, to increase the log level? The default log file does not seem to mention anything when searching.

Hmm ... that's weird. When I use FUSE to do a web search for "blues" and "rock" I get the same results as you did ... and the source of the presets is identified as "Web" in the Media Library.

So ... when you do a web preset search using FUSE ... no presets at all show up in the top window? Right? If so I think ya might have to talk to Fender to resolve your problem. But before I did I'd make sure all the software is installed and current ... FUSE, the firmware, Microsoft .NET Framework and Microsoft Silverlight. More info is here http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... n-download

Until ya find a work-around ... you can search for and download the presets directly from the FUSE site. Just install them in your Documents/FUSE/Presets folder and the Media Library should find them. I have 2045 presets in my folder and FUSE sees them all.

Thanks for the assistance, KenB5!

You're right, when I do a web search, no presets show in the list, although the page numbers in the bottom right do show. If I search on amp+computer+web, the list shows only presets from amp and pc.

Today I also tried installing Fuse on my machine at work (win7 but 32 bit), and the web search fails in the same way.

Downloading the presets manually works and since the search works among them, that may be a reasonable workaround. Is there a way to download all presets from the web in one go, to put in the FUSE/Presets folder? It is a bit cumbersome to search, click and download each one from the web browser.

Unfortunately ... no ... you have to download them one by one ... it's tedious. There are other problems ...

There are lots of presets with duplicate names ... can't have files in the same folder with the same name ... so you have to assign a unique name to each duplicate. And ...

FUSE only recognizes the name actually contained in the preset file ... for duplicates those need to be changed too.

I download new presets monthly but I don't change the preset name contained in the file for duplicates ... too much work ... for those I only change the file manager name.

OK, now the frustration is really starting to rise.

I have uninstalled and deleted all traces I could find of Fuse and its settings. Then reinstalled it.

Now I cannot use any "computer" presets at all. The list is empty, even though I have imported and created presets.

Like this:

- There are a number of "MU_*.fuse" files in the Presets directory. These we imported through "Import to library".

Start Fuse. Go to the media library. Press the "computer" button.
- The list is empty.
Click "NEW" to create a new preset.
Click "SAVE" to save it. Give it the name "apa".
- The list now contains one preset named "apa".
- There is a file "MU_apa.fuse" created in My Documents/Fender/FUSE/Presets
Exit Fuse.

Start Fuse again.
- The list is empty. "apa" is missing.

Now for the next funny part:

When I click "OPEN" and select one of the fuse files that were already imported to the presets directory, it says that it already exists in the media library; do I want to overwrite it. And if I do, it still does not appear in the presets list.

Basically, this now leaves the media library part of FUSE useless to me.

I can apply a downloaded fuse file and store it on the amp by using the following steps:

Use OPEN to load a specific fuse file.
Use SAVE to save it to a new dummy name. This adds it temporarily to my media library view.
Then right-click on it and select "Save preset to amp...".

Well, at least I can download a preset from the amp and edit it, as far as I can tell.

I find it hard to believe that I am the only one that has experienced these problems.

Fender: I am a software developer by profession. If you want one of your developers to contact me for further investigation, I can probably provide useful information.

Hmm ... I'm grasping at straws at this point ... but ya said something that caught my eye. When you close FUSE and restart it ... it should re-read your presets folder ... so if NOTHING AT ALL is showing up in Preset Manager ... I'm wondering if the presets are being stored in the same folder that FUSE looks in to find them.

You said MU_apa.fuse was saved in your "My Documents" folder. You use Win 7/64, which I'm not familiar with ... and I use Vista 32 ... and MY presets are stored in the Users/(my name)/Documents/Fender/FUSE/Presets folder ... I don't have a "My Documents" folder ... so ... since you use Windows 7 64 one question to answer is ... where does FUSE store and look for presets on Windows 7 systems ... the "Documents" folder or "My Documents" folder?

Good catch! It seems that my "Documents" folder had been renamed to "My Documents", or something of similar effect. I compared with other user accounts on the same machine, and they have a "Documents" and then a "My Documents" link to the "Documents" folder.

Renaming my folder to "Documents" made Fuse find my presets. Woohoo!

Still not able to search the web from within Fuse though, but I give up on that one for the moment. I'll switch to playing the guitar instead of fighting the software for a while. :)

Thanks again for the help, KenB5!

Hey Ulkis,

What version of Silverlight do you have installed? If you still have version 4, try installing SL 5. We've seen version 5 resolve a few issues that couldn't otherwise be explained.

Hi Loren,

At first I believe I used the SL 4 that was installed with FUSE. Upgrading to SL 5 unfortunately didn't make any obvious difference.

I have exactly identical problem with Search Web function. No presets appear in the top window except presets from the computer or amplifier. I have windows 7 pro 64-bit, silverlight 5, and fender fuse 2.6.

Did anyone manage to what it can be? What is the fix?

No issues here... first off make sure at the lower right hand corner that you are logged in.. It should state your user name if you are...

Then after you are logged in the WEB button should be red(ish) under the search glass..

Then you also MUST have the WEB button in the center of the screen selected- should be red(ish)... everything shows up no issues...

If you dont follow the above nothing shows up...

Hey Guys,

Ulkis and Tomeks - Are you still seeing the same behavior?

In my case the problem still exists. When I search with Web selected under the search box the program pauses for 5-15 seconds and empty results list appears, except the number of pages varies depending of the search phrase. E.g. fuzz gives 3 pages and rock gives 5.

If I click on the "Web" button above the search results window I get the full unfiltered list of all presents. Finding anything there requires switching tens of pages. I can click and download any of them - this works.

So the main problem appears to be the result list itself that fails to display filtered results.

Regards

Tomek
