Hi all,
it seems I have a few problems getting Fender ASIO to work properly with my amp.

First of all, when I switch on the amp and enable it as an input in the WDM device list, ASIO Settings won't allow me to set any buffer size lower than 512 samples: is this normal? (EDIT: well, not based on this picture)

Anyway, the worst thing is that no matter the buffer size I choose, after a while some cracking noise always creeps in.
Just to be clear, I've tried using the Test Tone feature in Ableton Live, with "CPU Usage Simulator" set to 80% as the instructions suggest. If the amp is disabled, I can set the buffer size as low as 64 without any issue.

If the amp is enabled, let's say that I set buffer size to 512: at first, I can still hear the tone clearly from my PC speakers (Windows 7, btw). After some seconds, however, the cracking noise kicks in: if I turn down the CPU usage to 75%, it disappears for a few seconds and then comes again, unless I turn down the CPU usage to 70%... and so on. Modifying any settings in the ASIO panel seems to reset the process and make it start over again.

With a higher buffer size, it just takes longer for the sound to corrupt, but the issue is still there.

Any ideas?

Yeah, I have a Mustang II and I got the exact same problem. I did one simple thing that permanently fixed the static problem.

Install ASIO4all and use that.

http://www.asio4all.com/

Not only is there less latency, but you don't get that annoying static every minute or so.

Toodles.

Thank you for the advice, but I've already tried that and it made no difference.
I've also uninstalled Fender ASIO, just to be sure; I'm currently using ASIO4All but the problem is still there. Did you follow any specific procedure when replacing Fender with A4A?

Anyway, I've made some experiments with a cheap "Guitar Link" guitar to usb adaptor (like this), which has both an audio in and an audio out.
Overall, I've tried all combinations with the following devices:

In: none, Mustang USB, Guitar Link, Via HD Line In
Out: Guitar Link, Via HD Line Out

Via HD is the soundboard integrated on my M/B, btw.
Bottom line: all In/Out combinations seem to work, except for In: Mustang and Out: Via HD (which, incidentally, is the one I'd like to use, which very typical with PCs  ).

I've also tried installing Amplitube and Live 8 on a Win7 laptop, and I've had no issue using Mustang + internal speaker.

So, well, this now looks like a weird issue created by a combination of devices that seem to work all right on their own.

P.S.: after all these trials, I can confirm that whenever a usb port is selected as a source, the minimum buffer size is capped at 512. I'm assuming this is the rule.

I'll have to get back to you. I do a lot of my guitar input to my computer through my Rocksmith USB cable and not my Mustang amplifier. I use AmpliTube 3.7 FREE and the Custom Shop, not the AmpliTube Fender LE version that came with the Mustang.

I'll test out my Mustang's USB interface and see if I can restart the problem. I still have my Fender Universal ASIO installed.

I don't have Windows 7 (I still use XP Pro) but, if the problem develops over time, it sound to me like you need to optimize your computer for best performance with background services - which is what your dealing with...

I don't know how or if you can do that in 7 but, in XP you would go to Control Panel then:

System (dialog)-> Advanced (tab) -> Performance (Settings button) -> Advanced (tab) and choose the "Background services" radio button.

This setting makes a huge difference in XP.

Hey Guys,

We've seen some pretty baffling issues with certain chipsets and ASIO. We've come to the conclusion that some chipsets are just incompatible with ASIO. If you've installed the Fender ASIO driver, disabled all inputs other than the Mustang and all outputs on your soundcard other than your stereo out in the ASIO settings window and it still doesn't work, you may be looking at some sort of compatibility problem.

Frankly, I've given up on my Windows 7 laptop and ASIO. The interface with Ableton Live is nightmarish. My Windows XP old beater worked great.

Nowadays I just use my old Apple with my beloved Ableton software and the Mustang I is for practicing only. (I'll fire FUSE back up when I get a newer Intel chip Mac).

A real shame because that FUSE with all the user presets was sounding better than anything .. allowing people to skip $150-$250 interfaces to get great tone. But the bottom line is that you need either a Masters Degree in Computer science to get around WIN7/Asio, a tricked out WIN XP that can handle the load or a newer Apple (the land where all things are solved)

Either way I love my little M1, Ableton and IKMultimedia.

I think your sound card doesn't play well with ASIO ... it's very common ... especially with on-board sound setups.

Hey Guys,

Nyrang - make sure that you're actually adjusting the buffer settings for the Mustang and not the audio chipset. You'll have to click on the Mustang in the ASIO settings window and adjust the slider at the Bottom. Your problem sounds kind of strange because cracks and pops usually occur when the buffer setting is too low. The default is 512 which is considered high.

I had trouble with Ableton, windows 7 and my onboard sound.

I bought a cheap, non-ASIO sound card and all is well :)

I have the same thing here.
Mustang II, WIN 7x.64, Auztentech X-fi forte sound card, Guitar rig 5, Asio4All latest, cause Creative asio does not support USB audio inputs.

When I set in ASIO4ALL, everything is sounds great and clear but after some minutes cracking an popping just grows and grows.
'Ive tried all the stuff to eliminate the problem, but I get no positive results.

Hey Brane,

Have you tried raising your buffer settings?
