I guess the title says it all. I've read about people "modding" the MI or MII amps to run external cabs, but I'm not sure what they did to them or if there is a way to do it with my MIII.

You can, but you've got to unhook the wires from the internal speaker, and connect them to the cable going to your external cab. There is a thread in this forum from last summer I believe, by someone who made a permanent external speaker jack. You could make a little temporary adapter by playing around with 1/4" jacks and plugs.

You have to make sure your external speaker or cab is 8 ohms, so familiarity with how Ohms work is essential. I'm convinced Fender didn't include an external speaker jack because they believe their intended market can't do 4th Grade division.

You should also make sure your speaker or speakers can handle 100 watts, or you risk damaging your speaker(s).

Thanks. I have a thorough understanding of impedance, so that isn't an issue. It would probably work pretty slick wiring a jack and the internal speaker to a switch so you can select either/or. I'm guessing this completely voids the warranty though, so I probably won't mess with it.

Yup, you are right about the warranty, and those are my thoughts exactly.

But I will say that the more my speaker(s), I have a IV and III, get broken in the better the amps sound.
