I love my Fender Mustang III amplifier but want to purchase a Line 6 Verbzilla effect pedal to emulate the Edge U2 shimmer sound. If I do get it what is the proper way to hook it up? I saw this on Fender Mustang Manual/Support page,
"Connect the FX SEND jack(s) to the input(s) on your external effects device and connect the FX RETURN jack(s) to the output(s) on your effects device." "The Mustang III amplifier only accepts mono effects devices."
If I do this method where do I plug in my guitar?
Will this method disable all the onboard effects I set up in my U2 presets or will it add the Verbzilla's Octo shimmer effect on top of the presets?
What would happen if I plug my guitar into the Verbzilla, then the Verbzilla into the amp where I normally plug in the guitar and then select the U2 preset?
Please let me know,

You can do either. If you hook your effect into the effects loop (the FX SEND/FX RETURN jacks, you'll just plug your guitar into the amp like you normally would.

Or you could plug your guitar into the effect, and then plug the effect into the amp.

Try both and see what sounds better to you :)

I run my EH Stereo Memory Man and EH Cathedral through the effects loop of my Mustang V and it sounds pretty kick...
I also have a Lexicon MX 200 rack unit that sounds good through the effects loop as well..

The only mod effects I run straight into the amp are my EH Deluxe Electric Mistress and a EH Small Clone, mostly do that because they are not stereo...
