Hi,

I am on the market for a new amplifier (sold my cheap combo amp recently) and I am really appealed by the Mustang’s specs. I just do not know which one to get.

I tried the Mustang I (I liked it a lot) in a nearby shop but they do not have other models. I guess they should be even better.

I have a budget up to the Mustang III but I also saving some money for a Hofner Verythin CT (my actual guitar is a cheap Tele copy with some upgrades and I want something better). So, if I spend less money in the amp I will be able to buy the guitar sooner (even if I do not know if buying an inferior amp is better on the long run…).

The amp is mainly for home practice. I will probably use it for some jam with friends but not to gig with. Or at least I am not thinking on it right now.

I am bent towards the Mustang III (better column, better interface…), I was about to order it, but the thing is that I will have to buy the amp online and I am quite apprehensive about the infamous fizz issue.

And I keep questioning me if I really need a 100Watt amp for home practice mainly.

If you were in my situation which one would you pick?

Thanks and best regards.

Nuno.

Nuno,

I was trying to make the same decision last year. I was looking for a practice amp for home use, also wanted something that would connect to the computer and be easy to use during recording. I was gassing for a MIII because of the interface and Mid control....and the 100 watts.....

Ultimately I chose the MII...I leave the MII connected to my computer most of the time anyway, so I don't miss the Mid control. @ 40watts, the MII is more than loud enough for practice and home use....so I didn't really need the 100 Watts.

The choice is yours of course, but I would go with the MII if you are not gigging, it's $100 less...use the extra hundred to get your new axe!!

Hope this helps!

100 watt amp for home practice ? You`ll blow your windows out. I have a Mustang 1 and a Blues Jr. The M1 is a 20 watt amp and loud enough for the house but if you intend on doing gigs in large halls then I can see getting a 100 watt amp. Think it out good, like mentioned in the above post use the extra money you save towards a new guitar and you can have the best of both worlds.
And to the both of you, welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the fast answer.

Over here (Portugal) the prices are more or less 105/180/260 euros for the Mustang I/II/III. I normally do not to buy technology that I do not use and with the MII I would save 80 euros (100 USD). If I go for the MI, I save almost 40% of the price of the Hofner I am thinking about.

But I guess that the difference between a 12” and an 8” speaker is quite significant, and that leads me towards the Mustang II.

People were saying M3 sounds better than M2 also for low volume, but maybe that's subjective. What's not subjective is that the M3 has an FX loop. But then, the M3 is susceptible to the fizz problems mentioned in other threads.

Hello nscampos
Where you are saying in your post...
I guess that the difference between a 12” and an 8” speaker is quite significant, and that leads me towards the Mustang II.You are very correct, that difference in sound pointed me to the Mustang II. Well worth the extra money.

I liked the extra power, and I for one do not find that it does not sound good at low volumes. It sounds fine.

And the Hofner Verythin CT is just aroud the corner. :)

I just have to resist to some Christmas promotions (very good prices for the Ibanez AS73, Hofner Club CT and Hagstrom Swedie over here)...
