This problem is more about the asio driver than the mustang itself. Fuse works and connects fine. It's when I try to use recording software (Ableton, Sonar etc) that the problem comes up. I can't seem to select the Mustang as 'input' and my soundcard as 'output' simultaneously. When I activate the Mustang as input, the Soundmax output will 'X' out saying it's unavailable and in use by another application (which I'm guessing is the Mustang's active input being selected). Without this corrected, I'm unable to monitor playback and input the Mustang's signal simultaneously.

I have the latest drivers for my soundcard (Soundmax) that's built into my laptop (HP/Compaq TC4200 Tablet PC)

Could my sound hardware be incompatible with the mustang? I suppose I could always run the amp's output from the headphones jack and just record the sound that way if my sound hardware is incompatible with the Fender's asio driver.

Thanks

First of all normhart, sorry if you came back here only to see my reply doesn't have an answer. Just wanted to say thanks for backing me up on my thread as we both have pretty much the same question. So I'm backing you up here.

I also have tried everything and it just doesn't seem we can use different drivers for input and output. I have Ableton, and Cubase. I can record if I select the Fender ASIO but I can't playback or monitor the result. I can monitor/playback the result if I select Soundmax, but I get no signal to record. I posted a reply on my thread as to what ASIO4ALL manual says about it, but I don't under stand what it means.

You're welcome, Jetplane. (see my reply on another thread). The ASIO4ALL manual mentions something about the 'dreaded GS Waveform synth' and I've tried disabling that by going into the device manager properties for the Soundmax and checking the 'do not use MIDI features' box. Unfortunately, this disables ALL audio and not just the MIDI.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I will try it on my M-Audio 2496 equipped PC. I have a feeling a card with multiple output selections are needed. Then there's always the headphones out alternative.

NO asio driver will let you use two different devices at the same time. I can only select one asio device in Sonar, NO MATTER what devices they are, this is normal behavior. Your Mustang headphone out will BE YOUR soundcard out I would imagine, as I haven't yet recorded with the Mustang. But the usb thing means the Mustang becomes the soundcard, in AND out. You choose the Mustang as the output, hook your headphones up to the amp, and you should have stereo soundcard output using the Asio driver.

Thanks for the explanation. I'll give it a try but how did they get this happening?

From the Fender support page:

As we can see from the panel, the output and input are from soundcard and mustang respectively.

I tried the Mustang with my main recording PC (the one with the M-Audio card) this evening and just as I thought, the USB arrangement didn't pan out here either. Sonar didn't seem to pick up on the Mustang so I ended up going with the headphones out into my little Tapco mixer and into the soundcard. I found this to be more than adequate for my needs.

Hey Guys,

So you're both unable to get your ASIO settings screen to match what is shown on the screenshot above? Are you getting any errors or X symbols on your outputs?

The example shown above shows more line items in the soundcard than what I see on my system. On mine, there's only 'in' and 'out' (soundcard). I can have both 'in' on the soundcard and Mustang selected with no error but enabling 'out' on the soundcard and 'in' on the Mustang puts an X on the soundcard out every time.
