I have tried every DAW program I have, and none of them seem to allow me to have separate ins and outs. If I set my device on the Fender ASIO, they all want to use the Fender ASIO as the output also.
I've tried Ableton Live Lite Fender edition, Cubase LE 4, and Audacity.
I can record, see the waveform on the track, but can't monitor in real time. The only way I can hear what I recorded is to switch back to my PC or Laptop's sound card.

Hey Jetplane,

What device would you like to use to monitor the sound?

You need to click the wrench icon in asio settings, it then lets you chose 2.

In the ASIO settings panel you need to disable every "input" other than the Mustang amp. You also may want to disable every "output" other than your built in soundcard device. The way you are trying to set it up is how most users are using it, unless they have an external audio interface.

The only problem is that on my system, enabling the Mustang for input seems to conflict with the output of my soundcard (puts an X there). Strangely enough, the input of the soundcard and Mustang can both be enabled with no problems.

Since the Mustang only sends and can't receive audio via USB, is is possible that the USB implementation of the Mustang's unsupported output function still interferes with the soundcard output?

When I uncheck the Mustang (input) both my soundcard input AND output are activated normally. Checking the Mustang for input, places an X in the output of my soundcard.

How would I 'disable' the Mustang for output if it doesn't even appear as an option? That's something that would have to be done in the Mustang USB/ASIO driver itself, wouldn't it?

Therefore, it seems that the 'application in use' referred to by the pop-up message is the Mustang being enabled as the input device.

I'm not sure why enabling the Mustang disables your built in sound card's output. The most common cause of a disabled output is usually open programs. Be sure that no programs are using the audio device. If another program is using it then ASIO can't use it. Background apps like chat/IM clients are notorious for this.

I'm fairly certain it's not another application as I can enable the output on the soundcard when the Mustang input is not activated. If there was an app using the card, I would not be able to activate the soundcard output at any time.

I guess it's just some incompatibility with my soundcard driver and ASIO. The soundcard is an integrated one in a laptop and is just a very basic one at that. Enabling the Mustang for input apparently makes the soundcard think an output is enabled as well and disables its out as a result.

We have come across some audio cards that for whatever reason seemed to be incompatible with ASIO. I guess it's pretty difficult to have out of the box support for every audio chipset in existence.

Yep, I guess so. I've pretty much put this whole thing to bed, anyway -I can use MME or just record analog from the headphone out.
