Hello all,

I just bought a Mustang I on Sunday and I love it. I have a guitar for sale and a guy wants to trade me his two week old Mustang IV for it even (I'm selling the guitar for $325).

I'm suspicious about his generous offer of trade, I wonder if he might have damaged the amp in some manner (I saw on another thread that there are several ways to hook things up to it and one must be very careful), is there something I should be on the look out for?

Are the Mustang IV's susceptable to the Fizz problem?

Thanks in advance for any advice rendered.

Steve

Well, if you can borrow the amp for about an hour, you can go over all of the input/output jacks with a simple stomp box to find out if anything is busted or broken. You'll need 3 guitar cables to do this test.

Guitar into amp. Does it sound ok? Then plug the stomp box into the FX Loop for the left channel. Does it work on the left speakers? Ok, then try it on the right channel. Does it work for the right speakers? Ok, so all the jacks work. Now, have a laptop or something that has FUSE (that works) and hook it up to the amp so you can test the interface. Test the selector knob and the push-button underneath it. Test all the buttons on the face of the amp. Turn all the knobs to each stop to see if they work properly, are loose, etc. Check all the jacks and make sure they're tight. If all goes well, the amp should be in good working order.

HOWEVER, the dreaded "fizz" issue is definately a possibility for the M4. You might also get lucky and have a fizz-free model like I have (mine's the M5+V412 cab). I wouldn't agree to any kind of trade/sale unless the amp passes muster. If you're going to trade a perfectly good and working guitar, you should get a perfectly good and working amp in trade.

Yes, no problem with cords or the FUSE hookup. I'll post here tomorrow with results.

Many thanks for your advice.

Well, the guy came over with the amp, just two weeks old, everything checked out, and we made a trade that we we're both happy with. Thanks again for your help FFXIhealer.

I love it!!! So do the guys in my band who love the new tones. My Marshall half stack hasn't even been turned on since I got the M IV.
