Would really appreciate some suggestions on how to achieve this sound (or close to it) on my Mustang. I just love Jack Thammarat's playing and this particular souring lead sound.

Here's what Jack says he's using, but would someone like to take a stab at translating that into a setting on the Mustang? I know I'm not having a lot of luck. Thanks :D

Start here and tweak around it.

AMP: British '80s
= Gain: 10
= Volume: 7 (or to taste)
= Treble: 7
= Middle: 5.8
= Bass: 4
= Presence: 8
= Master Volume: ~7 (or to taste)
= Sag: Matched
= Bias: + ~2%
= Cabinet: 4x12V

Overdrive Pre-amp Stomp Box
= Level: 100%
= Gain: 50%
= Low: 62%
= Mid: 65%
= High: 83%

Stereo Tape Delay FX Loop Rack
= Level: 5
= Delay Time: 2
= Feedback: 2
= Flutter: 4
= Separation: 10
= Bright: 5

Small Room Reverb FX Loop Rack
= Level: 2
= Decay: 4
= Dwell: 2
= Diffusion: 1.5
= Tone: 5

This is just a start for you. I threw this together in 5 minutes on my Mustang II. You still need to tweak to taste. Note that I also NEVER use reverbs or delays, so I have no idea what those settings are or what they do. They're there because that's what the guy in the video was using.

Thanks FFXIhealer, I can't wait to try it out tonight.

Really appreciate your help. The last effects units I owned was back in the 70's when I was still gigging - fuzz, wah, reverb, and a Mutron II.

Kinda got left behind during the family-raising years. But, Grandpa's having fun getting caught!

Alright, that is just too much fun! I'm sure that woke up the neighbors. Totally unlike anything I've played in a long time. It's a keeper! Man, that screams for the whole band.

Gave me some great insights into some of the effects. I'm gonna play around tweaking. It's really great to have a place to start from. Thanks again for taking the time to put that together for me, FFXIhealer!

Appreciate any other tips from anyone who might like to help educate this old guy rocker on the modern gizmos.

Gizmos can be fun, but for a whole lot of modern rockers, we're really getting into vintage rock sounds and the biggest thing we look for is SIMPLICITY of the tone path. For me, I know that I never use reverbs, delays, etc. The only thing I've ever use on the Mustang amp is the Overdrive pedal. I have too much fun trying out the sounds of all the vintage amps built in to want to muddle it up with effects.

For sure, FFXIhealer. That's great! I too love the clean sounds. Heck, I AM vintage. :D

My grandson calls it 'retro'. But for me it's not 'retro', they are the sounds of my life. Glad to hear that many young musicians are enjoying them too.

Lately I have been doing a little bit of recording, and I would like to be able to blend in some modern sounds tastefully and judiciously to add extra color. I worked in broadcast production for many years, and also owned a studio in the 70s, but I zero experience with modern effects pedals and racks. So, I don't know how to get some of the more contemporary sounds that i really like. (geez, i sound like a dinosaur!). And, I already have my hands full mastering the switch from tape to digital. Sheesh, give me a pot and a slider over a mouse any day!

I sure as heck don't have the bucks to go out and buy a bunch of pedals to try them out - just to get an effect that I might only use once or twice. That's what I like about the Mustangs - great vintage sounds from models of the amps I used to own back in day - plus effects modelling. I'm for sure experimenting and studying - but I am also grateful for all the incite i can get from players who already know how to use 'em.

Bit like Jurassic Park - you too can help bring a dinosaur into the modern world

Again, thanks for taking the time!
