I really love my Mustang IV. But there is a problem. The tuner is not in tune. My daughter is playing violin, So we got a SEIKO tuner for her. I use it to tune my guitar to. When I bought my Mustang IV, I got very happy that it had an built in tuner. It´s just that it´s 18 cent higher than the SEIKO :? . Does anyone know if its possible to adjust it? Does anyone else have the same problem?

The violin is played by pulling a rosened bow across the strings to make them vibrate that way. There's constant tention on the strings in the process. On a guitar, however, you pluck the string and let it vibrate at that specific point on its own. The vibrational qualities are completely different. The two instruments will have different tuning points in order to hold the same pitch. This is especially true if the tuner is a clip-on that pulls its tuning value from the resonance of the neck wood and not from the sound in the air.

I would double-check that tuner by testing it with other tuners available. AmpliTube has a built-in tuner for your computer, as well as taking it to a music store and comparing one of theirs off the shelf. If your tuner really IS off, then that's a defect in your amp and you may have grounds to exchange for a new one. If not, then the problem probably lies with the aformentioned instrument variation.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

Are you sure the seiko is calibrated to a440? Most chromatic tuners have an internal calibration that lets you compensate for different pitch reference standards, e.g. a435 - a445.

I'd be very interested to hear what you find out, Plexus.

Hmmm. This is a little embarasing  . Thanks brucefulton for opening my eyes. I did not know that the SEIKO had that function. Somehow my daughter must have pushed some buttons on her tuner bacause the frequens was set to 444. After reset to 440 the SEIKO and the built in Tuner in the mustang is Dead on exactly the same. I'm really sorry if I caused any trouble for anyone. hehe. Thanks all for your coments. Now I love my Mustang IV even more :D

No, what would have been embarassing would be if your daughter went to play in a concert with an off-tuned violin because you DIDN'T ask. Asking us here was the SMART thing to do. Don't ever be ashamed because you put male pride on a shelf and got something done.

Sometimes, you just have to bite the bullet, stop, pull out a MAP, and figure out where you are.
