The III I got fizzed - returned it and got a II. Happuy with it in spite of the fact I would have liked the extra features of the III - but the II sounds great.

I went back to GC and tried the III they had on the floor - compared it to the I and II next to it, and it did fizz a little (much less than the one I brought home - you had to select clean settings at a moderate volume and listen, but it was there)

I guess that should make 2 votes!

I went through three Mustang III amps in just a few months. All three had the same fizz problem. Different guitars, different outlets. They were all bad. Now I just use a Line 6 HD500 with a QSC K10. More control, much better sound.

The poll is pretty much meaningless and lacks any kind of statistical validity. There is plenty of anecdotal evidence that some peoples' amps fizz and some don't. Since there is no way to sample the entire population randomly, the number of responses to this particular poll is a reflection of the concerns of this particular user group, not of the population of mustang owners.

But that begs the question. What difference does it make what the results of this poll are? Whether it's .001%, 1%, 10% or 50%, Fender has acknowledged the problem, has confirmed, according to multiple accounts and their own statements, that they consider it with in design specification and aren't going to honor, in general, a warranty claim for this problem.

In some individual instances for those who take it up directly with consumer services, Fender has offered a swap, such as for a Champ HD in my case, but this may not be considered equitable or equivalent by consumers. Consumers who fall outside a relatively short return window -- which is at the discretion of the vendor, not Fender -- may find themselves subject to restocking fees, shipping costs, or up to the full price of the amp.

Not all Mustangs fizz, according to anecdotal reports. But Fender can't seem to provide either a guaranteed non-fizzing example, nor a credible explanation of the problem. Until they can do one or the other, consumers should logically conclude that any mustang purchased might start fizzing, and that if it does, they will not be able to receive satisfaction from a warranty claim and must rely on vendor largesse for any post-sale issues related to fizz. I believe that is what Fender has publicly stated.

If Fender wishes to correct my understanding, they are welcome to post back. In the meantime, the poll is a non-starter in terms of the problem and its solution. People with fizz have a legitimate complaint regardless of the results of a non-scientific voluntary sample. Suppose you could sample the entire population? What percent should trigger consideration by Fender? I submit, any arbitrarily small percentage of consumers who buy an amp that starts sounding bad after some period of ownership.

It used to be that warranties meant something.

Mustang III
Mfg Date: 11 / 20 / 2010
Fizz: No
Latest firmware ( 1.8 )
Located in USA

It used to fizz, but somewhere it stopped doing it before I applied v1.8.

I have no idea. I'm enjoying the amp.

Again, please try to follow my simple instructions and limit you answers to AMP, YEAR, FIZZ, or NO FIZZ. you can add you voltage and the firmware use also.
There is a specific thread to complain about the FIZZ. It's not here.
Many thanks.

Mustang III, 112010, Fizz, 110v, latest firmware.

__________

I'm sorry willmodelisme, but I feel compelled to leave a commentary. Feel free to stop reading here.

I bought my amp back in May 2011 and it only just recently started fizzing. (At least I only just recently started noticing it.) To me its not a big deal because its very subtle and only happens on a few amp models on a super clean preset. And its only noticeable when I pluck a single note and let it ring. I mostly play classic rock and blues and the amp performs amazingly well for me. All that being said, I'd like it better if my amp didn't fizz and hope that there will one day be a fix.

I'm glad you found a rig that you like. But I think its also worth mentioning that for more control and better sound you had to pay about 5 times more than the Mustang III costs. I'm not trying to down you, if I had money to burn I'd get a better rig too. But apples to apples, I think the Mustang (with its flaws) is still a lot of bang for the buck and the best tone of its competition. (just my opinion of course).

So they delivered the amp an hour and a half ago.......I already called GC as mine was made on 12-28-2010 and the "fizz" problem is very noticeable. The manager of GC will call me as soon as the new amps come in. I told him I wanted one after Feb 2011 and that others here had mentioned that Fender is not saying anything about the problem, and just trying to get rid of old stock......For an amp that is so HOT and NEW, that the storage facility still has ones this old is really surprising to me. I really like the amp a lot, and want a newer manufactured one so I will be happy, or I have 30 days to just return it for a full refund.

As an electrician of 31 years, I know that the outlet that the amp is plugged into is on its own circuit and therefore no interference, and the panel is balanced.
I have not done a firmware upgrade, as the usb cord they give you is way to short to reach my computer, unless I move the amp from its stand. I will just have to use a PC laptop and upgrade, but I believe I read here that others said that did not make the problem go away.....but I have to at least try. I will get a long usb cord so I can hook it up to my mini mac, which I prefer to use for recordings.

I hope and pray the ones that GC get in are not old ones as well, or I will be forced to do a return and buy one down the road, when the old stock is gone. I wont get the 50
dollars off that I got on this model, but the fizz is not worth the 50 bucks.

@brucefulton Yep ... pretty much ...

But it does serve as a slight demotivator ... in that it serves as a warning to others.

I suggest adding to the first post, besides to post "time amp's in use", that before deciding if the amps fizzes or not people should update to latest firmware, disconnect USB (ground loops), and try different electrical sockets.

BTW, can people change their choice after voting?

My amp that fizzed has been fixed. I tried another outlet and got fizz, but that outlet was close to the mac computer I used to upgrade the firmware on the 12-28-10 amp and when I then plugged it into a third and final resting place outlet, no more fizz. I also used the software to turn off the noise gate on some of the ones that fizzed, which there were only just a minor few that did. I am keeping the amp and am very happy with it now !!!

Well at least I thought it was fixed........The HSH seemed to be playing well, but the next day I pluged in my american standard sss and it fizzed like crazy... I did not touch the amp for a few days as I was so angry, and then when I pluged in the hsh again, the fizz was back. I dont get how something can come and go. It does not happen on every preset, just more clean ones. I pluged in a stomp pedal with drums and played that through the left and right speaker and did not hear anything wrong. I will be returning this amp to GC and will get another, as I really do like the sounds.

Wanted to help some frustrated Mustang owners out there.

I own the mustang III and noticed the fizz and static noise coming from the amp as well.
Seems to only occur on the high gain distorted presets...I don't think it's a problem with the amp. I think it's a problem with user not being formiliar with the amp or least with me anyway.
After doing some research online thinking my amp was faulty I found a blog where the blogger points out that these particular presets have the volume set to high and sometimes the noise gate setting set to off or low and suggests turning down the preset volume and using the noise gate on amp preset...works like charm. NOISE GONE!!

I would think Fender would make note somewhere as I believe after seeing alot of reviews people returning these amps as faulty...when I believe the fault is with the users not the amp itself.

I hope this helps everyone.

I think that you may have a valid point here. I do know from experience that the more gain and the higher the volume does cause some unwanted noises from any amp. If you use the computer and the advanced amp setting you can get a lot of unwanted noise out of those higher gain/volume settings.

This might be why I never noticed a lot of "fizz" with my amp. Honestly I do not use most of those presets because they sound nothing like what they say they do. I start with a basic amp model and tweak everything from there.

What you're describing is not the fizz.

The fizz is a fluctuating buzzing that accompanies clean notes on low gain settings when those notes are allowed to ring out. It's an unnatural buzz that rises in volume and then falls as the note decays. It's most easily heard at low volumes. It makes the amp unsuitable for some small-room jazz guitar solos.
