I'm not sure I'm using the right terms, as a new beginner, but just bought the Mustang III with included 2-button footswitch. I don't see anywhere that the buttons do anything other than access the tuner and also 'A' and 'B' go up and down the pre-set sounds.

It would be so cool to be able to press button 'A' to play one pre-set sound and then push button 'B' to go to the other selected sound I want to play.

Is this possible?

TIA,

Ken

Yes. Simply go to the utility setting on the amp LCD and configure the two button footswitch for Quick Access (QA) 1 and 2 pre-sets and you're golden!

I see, said the blind man. Now I see there are three footswitch presets possible. Is #3 for no foot buttons pressed? (just guessin')

Then, second question:

There are menu choices for the foot switch after choosing the presets:

Down/Up - no idea what this is

QA1/QA2 - which I assume is the first two presets I chose above?)

Stomp/Mod - I wonder what that means

Stomp/Delay - again, need information on what this is

Stomp/Reverb - more info please

Stomp/Tap - ?

I find nothing in any printed or online literature either in user guide or advanced user guide on these items.

Could you help me here please?

Thank You,

Ken

These are all settings that your 2-button switch can be set to. Look carefully.

Down/Up - By default, the Mustang amp uses the left button to decrease the preset number (17, 16, 15, etc) and the right button go increse the preset number (14, 15, 16, etc).

QA1/QA2 - This setting makes the amp behave like you have a pre-defined preset for each button, although you can program which preset each button calls up. In this case, the amp will think of the left button's preset as QA1 and the right button's preset as QA2 (Quick-Access).

Stomp/Mod - In this setting, the left button will switch on/off the STOMP BOX effect for the preset you're using (Overdrive, Compressor, etc). The right button will switch on/off the Modulator effect for the preset you're using (Sine Chorus, etc).

Stomp/Delay - The left button still controls the STOMP BOX effect, but now the right button switches on/off the DELAY effect built into the preset.

Stomp/Reverb - The left button still controls the STOMP BOX effect, but now the right button switches on/off the REVERB effect built into the preset.

Stomp/Tap - The left button still controls the STOMP BOX effect, but now the right button acts exactly like the TAP/TUNER button on your amp's faceplate, allowing you to set the Delay frequency using your foot instead of having to go to the amp itself.

You couldn't have answered this in a more classy way. Hat's off and a big thank you for taking the time to lay all of this down. You did such a good job describing this I think Fender should pay you to use this text in their 'updated and improved' version of the Mustang amp user manual. Yours and elkchaser01's replies to this thread are what make a forum invaluable to those who want to learn and need help.

Wishing you and your families the Season's Best,

Ken

And to answer about the 3rd preset, that's used with the 4-button footswitch, which your amplifier has a separate jack for (giving you 6-buttons total). The 4-button switch has a mode that allows for 3 separate presets (QA1, QA2, QA3). I'm assuming that this is what the three presets are for. If you get the 4-button switch so you have 6, you can keep the 2-button as a scroll up/down and have your 4-button for quick presets so you have 3.

I don't like scroll up and down. I have the M4 and 4 button footswitch, which allows the 3 preset mode. If I get the 2 button footswitch, can I also have it in that kind of mode and simply then have 5 preset options? (as opposed to using either for the function of scroll up/down or turn off/on pedals that are assigned to a preset)?

Thanks.

No, there are only three "quick access" presets. This has been discussed in this forum several times before, with several people asking for five presets. I believe Fender are aware of the request.

Thanks. Yeah, I mean with a traditional pedal board, you might have (at least) 5 to 20 pedals (lol)....all are "quick access." You step on what you want. There is no scrolling up and down lol.

Having 5 quick access presets instead of 3 gets it that much closer to a true replacement for lugging around a pedal board (assuming the player is happy enough with 5 pedals for any one song and thinks the sound quality is good enough ie actually replacing the real pedal).

I realize one could strategically put the presents in the order one wants for a given set list and just keep scrolling, but that seems like a lot of work and would be prone to on-stage error. And one can of course re-assign the 3 presets before each song.

But 5 quick access presents IMO would make a huge difference...that extra 2 could lead to enough for no changes for a given night to a lot of folks I bet. Like I'd like to have the first 2 as clean but different just for some variety, like one would have more reverb and a little bit of gain, one would be super duper clean. Then a crunch and then 2 different high gain ones.

Now of course with 3 it's clean, crunch, high gain/lead.
