I am going to buy the Mustang V , will I still need my effects pedals with amp models on them?, as I have heard the the amp modelling effect pedals do not work so well with this amp.

Hmmm, I've been gigging with a Mustang III and V (depending on the venue) for about a year and I've pretty much sold off most of my effects. Granted, the wah effects are definitely lacking, so I kept my awesome Teese Wah, and I occasionally use my trusty old script Phase 90, but beyond that, I love the built-in effects on the Mustang.

Truth be told, I only use about 4 or 5 presets - I just switch off different effect blocks with the 4 button switch depending on the song - works great.

Here's my ranking by effect block (1 - 5 scale)
compressors - solid 4
autowah - barely a 1
phasers - 3
choruses - 4.5 (pretty much whatever you want)
flanger - 4.5 (surprisingly good!)
reverbs - 4
delays - strong 5 (the stereo delays on the Mustang V are awesome)
leslie rotary - 3 (could be so much better)
overdrive - 4
fuzz - I'd say a 3, but I'm not really a fuzz guy

Luckily for me, I'm a chorus/delay/compressor kind of player. I don't use the overdrive that much except for boosting volume for solos when I'm playing clean. For good overdrive tones, I use the SuperSonic amp model - it's just awesome and can be tweaked into pretty much whatever you need. Not fond of reverb for live use and as I mentioned up front, my wah and phaser tones (which are occasional) are the only thing I handle externally.

I doubt you'll need your pedals once you get the amp depending on the music you play. I have about 5 presets I've made for gigs, all with either the OD or Comp for solo boost and the Tape Delay assigned to the 2 button footswitch. It's pretty easy for me to spin around and turn the dial to which ever preset I need for a particular song. The built in comp is great as a clean boost but I cant seem to dial in a Brad Paisley kinda squash so I've just borrowed a Boss CS3 to play with. I use a Mustang 3 by the way!
Cheers
Tim

I have had my Mustang V with an ext. cab with two Texas Heats for about four months now. I have been using an EH Stereo Memory Man, EH Cathedral and a Boss RC3 in the effects loop, but just about given up on using anything in front of the amp. I have been starting to tweak the settings of the amp's effects to get the sounds I want and then just use the foot pedal to turn them on and off..

My overdrives and Big Muff sound ok live, but not so good when hooked up to my mixer for recording, but the amps built in effects for overdrive sound pretty good for recording.

I am running the effects loop stereo line into two channels of my mixer and also have the headphones out going to two channels, so I am tracking with four channels. It is starting to sound pretty good in the mixes and it is silent to the other half, if you know what I mean...

I have an EH Deluxe Electric Mistress, but I am going to get an EH Stereo Electric Mistress so I can use it in the stereo effects loop...

This amp has been working great for those late night inspiration songs that hit me and I just want to get it tracked to a good jam track while I got it... Then later I can mike my Blues Deluxe, Blues Jr. or Vibro Champ XD to beef it up a bit with my stomp boxes and an SM 57.

My Mustang V does fizz a little, so usually do not mike it, but it does not do that with the effects out loop or the headphone out, so I usually just use it that way.

The fizz is not really noticeably if I crank it up a bit live and jamming with a drummer though...

I have never tried a multi effects with the Mustang V, but if I did I would probably go through the effects loop with it first, instead of straight into the amp...

I have a EH Stereo Electric Mistress and it's an incredibly cool pedal, but unfortunately it only has stereo outs - the input is mono. If anyone knows how to hook this up to the stereo effects loop, please post it. I have a couple of Digitech Hardwire pedals and they work well since they have stereo ins *and* outs (I'm referring to the Delay and Chorus pedals). While the Digitech Delay is pretty good, I think the built-in delays in the Mustang are comparable - same for the Hardwire Chorus pedal. That said, the EH Electric Mistress is just a whole other animal compared to what you can get in the Mustang modulation effects - I'd love to have both available to me...

I was going to try and use a y connector and put it first in line..
The deluxe electric mistress only has a dry out and one effects out..
