not to hijack this thread, but how are you guys running 50 watt speakers in a 100 watt amp? I've never been sure of this... please explain, cheers.

Just because an amp is rated at 100 watts doesn't mean that it's putting out that much power all the time. There are so many ways to measure an amp's wattage that I think it would be difficult to tell exactly how much power the MII or any of the Mustang amps actually have. I'm sure that the C-Rex is more than up to the task as it'll likely rarely get a full 100 watts at any kind of a constant level. It might get peaks of 100 watts (maybe even a little more) but most speakers are built to withstand that type of overload.

And yeah, I'd go for the MIII over the MII as well.... the features of the MIII are worth it (IMO).

The only thing I ever miss on the MII is the Midrange knob - that's it. It's got plenty of power in most situations and when more is needed, I just mic it.

I have the MII with an Eminence Cannabis Rex speaker and a beam blocker installed - I absolutely love it!

Rickbloom, this is the post I was referring to, not yours.

HIGHLY recommend the III over the II. The extra bucks are well worth it and you might regret not doing it latter.
I have to strongly second this - I had II originally, but after playing a III, the II sounds really boxy to me. I put a Cannabis Rex in my III, and it's just bomb for whatever I need - jazz, R&B/Funk, Classic Rock... For the extra $100 bucks, it's really a no brainer. Also, for gigging, the foot switch options on the III are indispensable...

This is the post I excerpted from, and I believe the one being referred to by JamGuy...

No biggie!

NO WAY would I buy this amp again for ONE REASON---THE FIZZ!

If you use it for practice with any type of clean setting---the fizz will ruin the otherwise very usable and realistic tones it produces.

YOU will grow to hate this amp when the FIZZ kicks in---A Word to the Wise is Sufficient.

I bought a Mustang I, in Feb, I think. Not sure I'd buy one again. I think it depends on what you plan to do with it. The Mustang is not my main amp, I bought it to play around with it and for a lightweight practice amp...for that it does pretty nicely. But I wouldn't be happy with it as my main amp. When I get together to jam with a friend, I'll still haul my tube combo with me, because it just sounds enough better to justify the extra effort!

One big consideration is the speaker, however. The speakers in the I and II are not great...the Celestion in the III is much better. However, the III seems to suffer from some fizz problem, and I have not heard this complaint with the I and II. So if you do it, you might want to get the II, then buy a different speaker for it. The III has a nicer interface on the amp itself, but if you use the USB control, you have complete control over all the parameters...beyond the controls on the amp itself...works fine for me in my situation.
