Hello,

I am new to this forum.
I have a Mustang IV amp.

I can record using my old PC (xp 32 bit), no problem. It mdetects it straight away.

On my new computer (win 7 64 bit) it doesnt detect. I tried using ASIO74ALL but all I got was really quiet recordings, and I couldnt make it louder.
I didnt like ASIO4ALL, since I could only hear ASIO sounds, media player didnt work, youtube didnt output sound, didnt like it.

Does anyone know how I can make my program (Mixcraft 5.2) detect it as a normal recording device without going through ASIO?

Thanks, JP

The CD that came with the Mustang IV has a "Fender Universal ASIO" that installs with the software package (FUSE, Amplitube LE, etc.). I haven't had any problems using this on my computer (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit). The Fender ASIO even works with the Rocksmith USB adapter, so I can bypass my amp completely when I'm using Amplitube 3.7 (I just "purchased" an Orange Rockerverb 50 MKII and an Orange PPC 412 cabinet on that...which is AWESOME!!!). I haven't had a problem with the input volume levels.

I have noticed, however, that when I'm using the ASIO, no other sounds work on my PC. It's like they've all been blocked. And I find it highly unlikely that with a quad-core i7 with hyperthreading, 16 GB of RAM, and a 7.1 channel sound card that I cannot listen to two things at the same time (song playing and my guitar).

Not being familiar with the Mixcraft software you're using, I cannot give you any advice there. However, I just wanted to point out that the Fender Universal ASIO on the Mustang CD might work a lot better for you than ASIO4ALL. Try that and get back with us with the results, man. I wanna hear if you get it working.

It sounds to me like you're using the Mustang for input and your built-in audio hardware for output. When you do that, ASIO takes control of your built in hardware and makes it unavailable to the OS or any other apps. The same would be true if you were watching a Youtube video and decided to fire up an audio app that uses ASIO. The ASIO control panel would show those outputs as unavailable.

There's not really any way to get around it that I"m aware of. Audio apps are resource hungry so you don't really want to be doing much else on your system while you're recording anyway.
