Hi. Recently got a III (May 2011) which in the UK is supplied with the 2 button f/s. At the time there was a UK shortage of 4 button switches which I wanted to add. This was resolved and a couple of weeks ago I added the 4 button switch to the gear. The expectations I had have not all been fully realised however.

The functions that have been satisfied have primarily been :-
... I can see the channel display in front of me and also the tuner with 1 tap of the function button on the 4 b/s. (b/s = button switch) I can allocate 3 presets to the 4 b/s and with 1 tap switch to up/down and banks. 2 taps takes me back to the 3 presets.

The draw back I have found is that the 2 b/s when added will not allow me to add an extra 2 presets (giving me 5 all together). 5 different presets would satisfy all my gigging needs but at present only 3 are not sufficient.

What I am having to do is to use the 2 b/s to up/down. To return I can use the 2 b/s again (up/down) or 1 of the presets on the 4 b/s. If I need to travel a long way (say from preset 11 to preset 63) the quickest way it to use the 4 b/s. to change banks to 60 and the up x3.
To return use the 4 b/s reversing the process. I do not use the other features to turn effects on or off either on the 4 b/s or the 2 b/s. My dealer would have traded the 2 up to the 4 but I kept the 2 to add the extra 2 presets but now can't seem to do it.

Any advice much appreciated.

Tony, Leicester UK.

You aren't going to be able to assign 5. The Mustang III supports a maximum of 3 Quick Access Presets that you can assign to a Foot Switch. I believe you can only assign those three to one foot switch or the other, they cannot be split between the two.

My suggestion would be to edit the presets you use most often and save them one after the other in order so that it only takes a few taps of the foot switch to go between them.
