Hey Guys,

Sorry if this has been posted before, but the Fender online registration has been down since I bought my mustang. I really want to register it, in case it develops any dreaded fizz. Is there another alternative, or am I stuck waiting for the online registration to be fixed?

"Our online product registration form is undergoing renovation and unfortunately is unavailable at this time.

We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to have this function restored soon."

Thanks-

I just picked up the Mustang V and I wanted to register it as well. Form's down.

I was whining about this when I got mine a few months ago. I finally gave in and mailed in the card.

Hey Guys,

There isn't really a warranty registration for these amps. The registration page that was up was basically for marketing purposes. The only thing you need for warranty/repair is your sales receipt.

What if the amp is already registered and I couldn't find my receipt, would I still get warranty service?

You should definitely try to get a copy of the receipt from your dealer. However, no Mustang is over 14 months old and they all come with a 5 year warranty.

See here for the official explanation from Fender when I asked a similar question re the UK warranty:

viewtopic.php?f=27&t=63305

I'm presuming consumer laws are either pretty strong to protect customers in Australia or there is only a limited authorised Fender dealer infrastucture in Australia.

However, I've just checked the Fender Australia site and it appears that since 1st November 2010 there are 2 different warranties offered by Fender in Australia:

1. Limited 5 yrs non-transferable in respect of Fender amplifiers made in USA or Mexico, if purchased from an authorised Australian Fender dealer, & subject to the amp being serviced by an authorised Fender dealer at least annually.

2. Limited 1 yr warranty for Fender guitars/amps made outside USA/Mexico

Details are here - click on the red and blue 'badges' at the top for full conditions:
http://www.fender.com.au/consumer_warranty.php

Hope this is of some help.

Rich :wink:

Hi, Rockcat

Given that the Mustangs are made in China, I'm sure that the 1 year warranty applies to them in Oz, and in fact my Mustang III (and my previous Mustang II) came with a 'blue badge' label to that effect.

It may be that Australian consumer protection law provides back up that Fender will try to argue makes the 5 year warranty 'unncessary', but they've never commented on this forum when I've raised the issue here in the past, and personally I would much prefer to deal directly with the company that made and sold me the product, rather than getting into complex wranglings through the consumer law process if something goes bang after 12 months.

Lots of info here on Australia consumer laws - bolsted by new changes wef Jan 2011:

http://www.consumerlaw.gov.au/content/C ... he_acl.htm

http://www.consumerlaw.gov.au/content/t ... r_2010.pdf

Quote:
Consumer transactions - Consumer guaranteesThe ACL creates a single set of statutory consumer guarantees to replace the existing system of implied conditions and warranties in the TPA. This changes the form, but not the intent, of the law that applies to consumer purchases of goods and services.
The guarantees modernise and clarify the operation of the law on consumer rights in relation to goods and services, and align Australia’s law with the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.

New requirements will also apply to the types of representations that businesses may makeabout consumer guarantees, ensuring that consumers receive accurate information and can make effective choices.

What are consumer guarantees?When a consumer buys goods or services, the ACL provides that they will have guaranteed rights that:
• the supplier has the right to sell the goods;
• the goods are of acceptable quality;
• the goods match their description;
• the goods are fit for any purpose that the consumer makes known to the supplier;
• the repairs and spare parts are reasonably available;
• the services are carried out with reasonable care and skill; and
• the services are completed within a reasonable time.

Not dissimilar to UK - lots more detail in there. The US/Canada don't have these statutory protections. There's also an agreement between Australian States re common interpretation/practice, also detailed on the website. Hope this is of interest & helpful. I recommend you have a good delve through as most people really don't understand their consumer rights & its good to know what these are.

Rich :wink:

Unless I am missing something, based on my local experience of the way these provisions work, all they do is impose statutory performance requirements on a maker/seller to comply with the terms of their own warranties - in Fender's case for 12 months on a Mustang amp bought here in Australia.

I can read nothing in those Australian provisions to suggest that they actually have the practical effect of EXTENDING the terms of such warranties beyond the 12 months originally offered, so the 5 year US warranty offered by Fender on these amps in my view remains a highly preferential position for US customers, unless someone at Fender can tell me otherwise.

Wow! It seems that the warranty site has been down since 2010. How long will it take to fix it? I am a web developer and I can tell you that it should not take that long to fix/build a registration form. I guess I'll have to mail my card too as it appears that they Fender does not plan on getting it up and running no time soon.

Have a look at Loren Howard's post on behalf of Fender - it's about 6 or 7 posts back in this same thread.

It explains why there has been no rush by Fender to get the registration page back on line - in effect the registration process is just a marketing ploy and registering there is pretty well meaningless for warranty purposes.

All you really need is your sales receipt with the date included to get warranty attention.
