I apologize i am new to amps <<<acoustic for years>>> and im looking for an amp for my new Epiphone DOT.
What is the difference in the Mustang III and V?
The M III is 100w with 1x12 with 2 button floor switch, costing 299.
The M V is 150w (not sure how many speakers) with 4 button switch, stereo, costing 299.
They both have the same presets and software. So what is the difference?

The M V is just an amp head with no speaker cabinet. Fender sells a matching 4x12 cabinet for an additional $299.

I see, Thank you.
so if one was to spend the 500.00 on the M V, wouldnt it be worth it to pay 600.00 for M V w/ Cabinet with 4 speakers?

I own both - and there is actually a huge difference - the V is STEREO! This virtually doubles the size of the sound and fullness. III is my rehearsal amp, V is my gigging amp...

And remember that you have a lot of other cab choices beyond Fender's 4x12. I had a local cab guy build be a 2x12 Bluesbreaker knock-off cabinet with a special switching plate on the back that allows me to run it in stereo or mono. I threw in a couple of Eminence Cannabis Rex speakers and it sounds fantastic.

That depends on what you want the amp for, really. There are other differences besides the watts and speakers.

They are both solid-state amps.
They both have 100 presets.
They both have 12 amp models.
They share all the same effects built-in.
Thhey both come with Fender FUSE, et all.

The Mustang III is 100 watts.
The Mustang V has 2 x 75watt lines (total 150 watts).

The Mustang III is MONO.
The Mustang V is STEREO.

The Mustang III has 1 x 12" Celestion G12T speaker.
The Mustang V has NO SPEAKERS. You need a separate speaker cabinet.

*NOTE: The Mustang V 412 CAB has 4 x 12" Celestion Rocket 50 speakers set up with two speakers per side, wired at 100watts each side, 200 watts total handling, 8 Ohms each side for stereo playback. They can be hooked up to a Mono amp with 2x8 Ohm out puts for mono play.

The Mustang III has a 2-button switch jack.
The Mustang V has a 4-button switch jack AND a 2-button switch jack (6 buttons).

The Mustang III weighs 36 lbs.
The Mustang V Head weighs 27 lbs.
The Mustang V Cabinet weighs 78 lbs. (Total with Head = 105 lbs)

It all depends on what you want.

Or you can go for the Mustang IV - 2x12" combo (2x12" Celestion G12P-80, 8 Ohm speakers) which is also 150w (2x75w stereo) and comes with the 4-pedal switch. It weighs 47lbs, has 12 amp models, 100 presets and a stereo FX loop, price £328.

Fender has a useful Mustang comparison page here that shows the features of each version in a table format:

FFXIhealer,

That's a pretty good summary.

Just one nit-pick:

The MIII comes with the 2-button foot switch included; the IV and V include the 4-button foot switch. All have jacks for both, and the other foot switch may be purchased separately (IOW you can get the 6 button functionality on any of them, though the III will cost a bit more to get there).

Definitely agree with this.

PITA

To the OP

If you are just getting into amplified music the III is plenty. Once you start gigging you will mic up the amp anyway so why carry all that weight around when the III has all the same models and effects.

+1 I have the MIII and mic'ing this amp has worked out great, playing both inside and outside venues!

I suggest going for a IV - it has the sound of a V but it's easier to transport and much more compact than V + cab. The power output is the same, so you'll have plenty of volume.

I went with a Mustang V and Ibanez 4x12 angled cab modified for stereo.

I suggest weighing your needs/wants against your wallet and upper body strength.

For living room jamming the Mustang V is overkill. If you jam outside with a drummer and have no PA system, it kicks $@!.

If you typically mic your amp, the III and IV work well. The IV just has a little more oomph and stereo. If you like to use different sets of speakers and experiment a lot, the V is a good bet.

If you have a bad back or are frail, I would not suggest a 4x12.... they are heavy. You also have slightly more cabling to manage with the Mustang V.

If you have a small car, you may want to go with the III. I can usually stuff my cab, mustang V head (which isn't a small amp head, it's pretty huge), my guitar case, a guitar stand and a couple bags with stompboxes and cables all into the back seat of a 4dr 1997 Nissan Altima but removing it sucks and getting it in there can be literally painful. Something like a corolla or escort probably wouldn't happen at all.

I imagine being pimpslapped by a 4x12 cab at 50+mph in an accident would suck too.
