Currently own a Mustang2, and considering an upgrade to Mustang 3. I would like to just stay with the 2 button switch (yes, its the cost). What methods are are people with a 2 butn switch using in a live situation to switch between presets during a song. I need 4 staple sounds: Clean, an Overdriven(voxac30), british 80's, british 80 boosted for lead.

To be able to use these 4, i guess just program ft switch to up and down?

Correct on the up and down but throw a clean just below each of your "crunch" presets to allow quick switching between them. You know your set list so set it up for that...you have 100 spots tho use.

It was a PIA for me and the 4 button on ebay was only $50 shipped so I would recommend you bite the bullet and get one.

I agree with whoule, get the 4 button foot switch. It will make playing live a whole lot easier. I got mine at Sweetwater for $40 and free shipping.

If you have just 4 presets, then up/down will probably work reasonably well, as long as you don't have to switch too quickly mid-song between the ones that aren't adjacent (a couple or three beats may be needed).

OTOH, as whoule and jcwillow777 said, the 4-button foot switch will give you more options--and if you really are trying to stretch your $$, the G-DEC 30 4-button foot switch works perfectly well too (except the lowermost labels are not right for the Mustang), and several folks have been able to get those for less than the Mustang 4-button foot switch.

HTH,

PITA

FWIW -

With the 4-button footswitch, I keep the main preset I like on '0' since that is what it defaults to every time the amp in powered on. Then I set the 3 quick access presets I like to QA1, QA2, QA3 in utilities menu. After that I will keep presets I like in slot 10,20,30,40 etc. (every 10) so I can use the 4-button footswitch to toggle up/down by 10 ('banks' of 10), or by 1 preset.

So, I guess you could call this 13 Quick Access Spots to use to go up/down on the 4-button footswitch. Also handy to keep the 2-button footswitch set to up/down for when you go elsewhere on the 4-button switch.

It works ok for me, but it would be better if there were some more options in the utilities menu.... such as..... reverb on/off isn't an option for the 4-button switch... (that I have noticed).

Another thing I just noticed.... If you are on a preset and change something (like volumn) and the red light comes on so you have the option to save the change.... if you then use up/down on the footswitch... the 'amp' in use will change in the preset you are on. I'm not saying this is bad, its something I just noticed. Don't hit save by mistake.... posssibly a good reason to keep 'memory lock' turned On in the utilities menu.

I have had the MIII for about 3 months now and have played 4 gigs with it thus far. The two button switch will work, but I have found it to be a PITA sometimes, especially when our lead singer decides to switch up the setlist mid-set! Just to keep it simple, I have a one good clean and a good overdrive tone right next to it, above/below. There are very few classic rock songs that we play where this arrangement doesn't work. Even though I have the amp positioned high enough, and can make quick scroll wheel changes if I want something different before a song, the two-button switch has left me wanting....4-button switch incoming!!!

Thanks everyone, sounds like the 4 button is worth it.
