Currently own a Mustang2, and considering an upgrade to Mustang 3 for a little more juice at live performances, and a better quality speaker. How many QA settings can you have with a 2 button footswitch? Can you program the switch so that both buttons toggle presets?

Was using a zoom g2 into the clean preset for months, then finally realized how much better the fender sounds are.

All Mustangs III, IV and V have 3 possible QA presets.

The 2 button foot switch can let you choose between the first two; you can select (via the utility menu, and from a predetermined list of options) other functions for this foot switch as well.

You can also use both the 2 and 4 button foot switches together for more options (you'll have to purchase one of them separately--which one depending on which amp you've bought). The manuals (online pdfs) describe them in a bit more detail.

Can someone having the 4 button switch tell me if its a mono jack output or stereo jack output ?

I plan to build a DIY QA 3 buttons for my mustang.

It's a mono-jack input, because it's sending a serial data stream over the line. The 2- and 4-button switches for the Mustang III, IV, and V are not simple switches. Rather, they're data-processing terminals...like plugging your PSP into your PS3 and using it to do controls.

Nicely explained! And it's exactly the same with all floor-controllers (Line 6, Vox, Peavey etc) aside from the very simple 2-button switches that apply to certain models.

Most typically, the data stream is communicated via SYSEX (system exclusive) software that is specific to that manufacturer & product, and is not 'MIDI'. Certain Line 6 products do operate on a MIDI basis so third party floor controllers can be used (eg Behringer FCB1010 Midi-controller) albeit these will need a separate power-source and cannot use the amps onboard power which the Line 6 pedals will use.

But amps like my Valvetronix AD120VTX are SYSEX with no MIDI capability, so third party products are not compatible and you have no choice but to use the manufacturers compatible floorboard products e.g. VC12/VC12SV or the older VC4, with my amp.

I'm probably a little cynical here, but I genuinely believe that the profits on floor-controllers (at least to some extent) help cross subsidise the price of amps, so the use of SYSEX based software helps to tie the customer in to buying another related product.

Thanks for your input FFXIhealer.
But you're wrong, at least for the 2 Btn switch.
It's a simple resistive pedal that charge 2 differents ohm value into the 2 btn jack input of the M3. 4.6kohm and 14.6kohm for QA1 and QA2.

I have already tested it and you can control the QA1 and QA2 via a simple 2 output resistive value diy pedal.

Thought it could have be the same for the QA3.
