Just noticed that the tiny black (plastic?) ring surrounding the AUX input on my Mustang 3 has gone missing.....I knew that the USB input was a bit "iffy", but hadn't realised about the AUX socket.
Needless to say, without it any mini-jackplug simply doesn't make a proper connection.

Are these provided as "spares", and, if so, can I get one from somewhere in the UK?

MIII's are guaranteed for 2 yrs in the UK (btw- all gear bought from DV247 is guaranteed 4 years!). First point of call is the store that sold it to you as they should be able to source the parts from the main Fender UK distributor.

If they can't help, drop Fender a line & they should be able to arrange for the parts to be sent to you free of charge. I don't have a contact detail for Fender UK, but if you e-mail Alan Willey at Fender Tech Support Lab: tsl@fender.com I'm sure he'll be able to help (either directly or to put you in contact with the UK distributor).

Let us know how you get on as I'm sure others would like to know how to get support from Fender in the UK.

Rich

Cheers for that....knew the unit as a whole is guaranteed, but wasn't certain about "parts"!
Bought online from Andertons in the UK, but suspect they won't have spares as such, being "just" a retailer.....will take your advice and contact Fender direct.
Out of interest, my previous complaint about the "screen burn" - a similar effect to petrol floating on water, giving a rainbow effect around the edge - hasn't got any worse, so the displays are still just about legible....wondering if any other M3 user has experienced the same problem?

Andertons have a good rep so its worth asking them & talking to them about your display problem.

Further developments on the above.....and a little warning to you Mustang owners!
Be a bit careful regarding cables into your USB, 'phone and AUX sockets...they are "hard wired" to PCBs directly below.
My (seemingly simple) problem concerning the AUX damaged socket is going to indeed mean me returning the whole unit to Andertons in Guildford.....needless to say, I only disposed of the box a couple of weeks ago (after keeping it in the cellar for a good few weeks, "just in case"!) so that's going to be fun, finding an alternative!
Fender UK will come to an arrangement with the retailer regarding a replacement amp, but how quickly that's going to happen is an unknown.....hopefully sooner rather than later.

Hope you have better luck than I did. Same thing happened to my headphone jack.

I had to send my amp to a third party service center. It took them 3 weeks to "research parts", but once they got the parts the amp was fixed and shipped back rather quickly.

Now I very daintly plug/unplug my cables. But it still makes me cringe. Those little plastic bits are not very robust.

Know exactly what you mean, my friend. I was extremely wary of the USB port from day one as well...slightly indented (on mine, at least) and the male connector consequently has a lot of "play".
The amp will shortly be on the way back to Andertons - I'm just awaiting the courier details. Unfortunately I'm out of their 30-day exchange period, so they intend sending it back to Fender for assessment/possible repair, or, if not possible, Fender "will replace it...."
Fender UK have already admitted that it "is not a spare we can easily get hold of" - here, or in the US apparently - so I'm hoping that a replacement is the order of the day.
In the meantime, I'd also fitted corner protectors to the unit, so they've had to come off as well.
Incidentally, I think someone on this forum has mentioned that the Mustangs have a 2 year guarantee in the UK?
Nope - according to Andertons, that's not the case : it's 12 months.
Another problem my unit experienced was with the display backlight - it fairly quickly started to discolour, with a petrol-on-water rainbow effect around the edges, once the amp had been on for a length of time.

That was me, and whilst Andertons are a good store, they've got it wrong on this occasion. Here's the response I received from Matt Davey of Fender GB on 12/05/2011 when I queried why there were different warranties in each country (eg 5yrs in the US, but only 2 yrs in the UK):

Quote:
Hi Rich,

Ryan has passed you email onto me to address the issues of the differing warranties in various territories.

The main reasons for the difference are down to local consumer laws. In the UK and Ireland all Fender guitars and Amps have a 2 year warranty from Fender GBI. We feel this offers a good level of protection against any manufacturing faults as most will show themselves in the first 6 months after production. This can often mean that a fault becomes apparent before the product reaches the market place. However, should a fault arise within 2 years of the purchase date we will repair or replace the product as necessary.

Under the Sale of Goods and Services Act, a product must be of satisfactory quality and be fit for purpose and the seller has a responsibility for up to 6 years. That means that should a fault arise after the 2 year warranty, you still have options.

Although the Fender warranty is 2 years, we will always endeavour to help customers should products become faulty after this period if wear and tear isn’t an issue.

Kind regards,

Matt Davey | Service Manger

The moral is - stores don't always know this type of stuff - e.g. many stores that sell Laney amps don't know that you can get the standard warranty extended from 12 mths to 5 yrs in the UK, by registering online via 'Headstock Distribution', and much depends on who you speak to.

I run Valvetronix.net and moderate on the Vox forum (my handle elsewhere is 'Voxman' - didn't seem quite right to use that on a Fender forum, so hence I'm 'Rockcat' here, but same avatar!) so I know the importance of checking stuff like this out first before posting.

I bow to your greater knowledge, squire!
That's handy stuff to know....thanks for clarifying the point.

All I have now to clarify with Andertons is whether I'm liable for the cost of getting the M3 back to 'em, and why they've already advised UPS that it only weighs about 2 kgs!

Hey Jack,

I"m sorry you're having an issue with the amp so soon. Fender GBI will do what's necessary to get you taken care of.

Thanks, Loren....I'm sure you're right.
The Mustang's been back at the retailer for a week now, so my guess is that it'll be on the way to Fender's UK repair centre for their diagnosis fairly soon.
It's not my main gigging amp - I have a Hot Rod Deville filling that task - but I confess to missing my III !

Three weeks and counting now, but apparently back with me next week sometime. Whether repaired or a replacement - or (hopefully not) a reconditioned unit? - I don't yet know....either way, it's obvious that we should all treat our mini jacksockets/USB port with a bit of respect!
