I got a Fender channel select pedal for cheap on ebay, thinking it was just an on off pedal. I don't seem to be able to get it to work. Does it require a stereo cable possibly? Or is it just not a simple on off pedal? At any rate, I am thinking it can easily be converted into an on off using the existing components. Any hints as to how the circuit should be?

Hi. Not an on/off at all i suppose.
ON MY M3 it is a kind of resistive select pedal.
For each switch it send a different resistance value.
Must be the same for the M1.
Switch A send 4.6 kohm and switch B send 14.6k ohm. The amplifier décode thoses value to take appropiate action when switch is pressed.
Must be a piece of cake to make you own pedal.

Hmm, thanks for the info. I'm not sure if the MIII is the same, being that it uses the four button switch, and the MI can only use the one button. But that is some place to start. Thanks much for the values, shouldn't be tough to rig it up that way.
